Luxury Individual Brazil Tour with Amazon: Rio, Iguazu

Day 1: Arrival in Rio – Check-in at Copacabana Palace

Your Brazil tour begins the moment you land. A guide will meet you at the airport for a private transfer to your hotel. For the next four nights, you'll stay at Copacabana Palace Rio in a One Bedroom Double Suite with pool view and breakfast. This iconic luxury hotel in Rio de Janeiro sits right across from Copacabana Beach – just cross Avenida Atlântica and you're at the ocean.
After your flight, no excursions are planned. You can rest in your suite or take a short stroll along the waterfront. In the evening, athletes run on the black-and-white mosaic promenade, foot-volleyball games continue on the sand, and small groups gather at beach kiosks. Closer to the water, the sound of the waves drowns out the city noise.
Your first evening is free. After a long journey, you can take a dip in the semi-Olympic pool in the courtyard, have a light meal there, and return to your room. If you feel like a walk, the ocean is just across the street. Today is all about 5-star relaxation in Rio – no plans, no transfers: everything you need is at the hotel, including several restaurants for dinner.

Day 2: Rio – Sugarloaf Mountain & City Tour

After breakfast, you'll meet your guide in the hotel lobby. Today's Rio tour will show you the city from two perspectives: from above and from within, in the Old Town. First, you'll head to Red Beach, where the cable car lifts you to Urca Hill. The cabin glides smoothly upward; the boats in the bay grow smaller, and conversations briefly fall silent.
A second ascent takes you to Sugarloaf Mountain. Below, Copacabana Beach arcs along the ocean in a bright curve. Ipanema Beach lies further on, beyond the coastal headlands. From the platform, you can make out the islands, the Niterói Bridge, and Christ on the opposite ridge. The wind here is stronger than at the hotel, and you can taste the salt on your lips.
After descending, you'll drive to the old center. The mountain wind gives way to the coolness of old churches, darkened facades, and the stone of colonial buildings. This is why it's especially rewarding to arrive a little early for your New Year tour – to have time to connect with the city.

Day 3: Rio – Corcovado & Christ the Redeemer

Today, you'll ascend to the statue of Christ the Redeemer with a guide (4 hours). The climb up Corcovado Mountain begins at the cogwheel railway station. The train slowly gains altitude, and soon almost nothing but green fills the windows. Tijuca Forest in Rio de Janeiro presses right up against the tracks; monkeys and birds occasionally appear in the branches.
For Rio, Christ the Redeemer has long been more than a historic landmark – it is a spiritual symbol of the city. At its base, some rush to take photos, while others pray or pause in silence, gazing at the bay. Even with crowds, there is always space for a moment of personal quiet.
The panorama from Corcovado helps you understand Rio's complex geography: neighborhoods occupy every available space between the bay, the ocean, and the forested slopes. Below, you can distinguish the Niterói Bridge, Maracanã Stadium, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Guanabara Bay. The Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro appears as a dense green patch among the urban sprawl.

Helicopter Flight Over Rio (Optional)

A light takeoff, and the shore quickly recedes – streets become thin lines, and yachts in the bay seem to stop moving. Any initial nervousness fades within seconds as your attention shifts to the city below.
From the air, Rio's geography is especially clear: residential areas occupy narrow strips between the Atlantic, granite peaks, and forest. Below, Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana beaches appear one after another, along with the lagoon, Botanical Garden, Niemeyer Avenue, Sugarloaf, and boats in the bay. We recommend the route that includes a flyover of Christ the Redeemer – the helicopter passes close to Corcovado, and you can see the statue from different angles against the water and cityscape.

Flight duration: 10 to 30 minutes, price from USD 150. Transfer included. The flight operates with a minimum of four people; you'll be joined by other passengers.

Day 4: Rio – Private Boat Tour to Ilha Grande

After breakfast, you'll head to Angra dos Reis. The drive from Rio takes about three and a half hours, followed by a private boat tour around Ilha Grande. The entire day will be spent among green islands, small coves, and open water.
The boat will stop at beaches so you can swim. In some coves, the forest comes almost to the sand; in others, you can clearly see the bottom. When the engine is cut, only the lapping of the water and the cries of birds remain. Along the way, dolphins or turtles may appear near the boat, and large fish sometimes pass beneath the surface.
With Brazil's beaches, the tour shifts mood: after the streets of Rio, you spend a whole day away from city noise and a packed schedule. In the evening, the boat will return to Angra dos Reis, where a driver will meet you for the transfer back to Rio.

Day 5: Rio – Free Day & New Year's Eve on Copacabana

The morning and afternoon are free. You can rest before the festivities or choose an optional excursion: a boat trip, ocean fishing, the Botanical Garden, Tijuca Forest, or a tour of the modern and historic center.
In the evening, a New Year's dinner at Belmond is included in the program. Afterward, guests head to Copacabana. The beach fills with locals and travelers, and concert stages line the shore. Most people dress in white – a symbol of renewal and purity – and bring flowers and small boats with offerings to Yemanjá, the goddess of the ocean.
The Rio de Janeiro fireworks are launched at midnight from offshore platforms. After the last bursts fade over the dark waves, people walk to the water and jump over seven waves, making wishes – each time steadying themselves on the wet sand, amid laughter and spray. Free concerts continue well past midnight, and the New Year's celebration on Copacabana lasts until dawn.

Day 6: Flight to Iguazu – Check-in at Belmond das Cataratas

After breakfast, you'll transfer to the airport and fly to Foz do Iguaçu. Iguazu is not a single waterfall but a long line of escarpments on the Brazil-Argentina border. The cascades stretch for nearly 2.7 kilometers. Usually counted as 275 separate falls, though after rains, many merge, making them impossible to count. Spray hangs over the forest, and the roar is audible even before you reach the canyon.
You'll stay at Belmond Hotel das Cataratas (also known as Hotel das Cataratas Iguassu Falls) in a Deluxe double room with breakfast. The pink building with arched windows sits inside the national park, opposite the falls.
Among Belmond hotels in Brazil, this one stands out for its location. Few luxury hotels in Brazil let you see the falls after the park closes or visit before the crowds arrive. The excursion is tomorrow; today is for rest after your flight.

Day 7: Iguazu – Brazilian Side, Devil's Throat & Macuco Safari

On the Brazilian route, you can see the full panorama of the falls. The trail follows the opposite edge of the canyon, gradually revealing nearly the entire escarpment. Dozens of separate streams are visible among the forest – some fall directly into the river, others disappear behind dark basalt ledges.
The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guaraní for "big water." When the walkway finally reaches the Devil's Throat, where the falls plunge into a narrow gorge, you fully understand what "big water" truly means. At first, visitors stop for photos. Minutes later, cameras are put away, and the wet handrails gleam in the sun.
Talking becomes difficult – the roar drowns out voices, the air moves with the force of the falling water, and droplets settle on your skin and clothes. Breathtaking!

Optional Iguazu Excursions: Macuco Safari, Bird Park & Helicopter Flight*

Macuco Safari begins with a 3‑km open-vehicle ride through the forest, followed by a short walk to the river, and then a motorboat that takes you so close to the falls that spray flies over the bow and the roar of the water drowns out the engine. Unforgettable closeness!

Bird Park at Iguazu is remarkable because part of the route passes through large aviaries. Toucans sit almost at eye level, scarlet ibises gather by the water, and macaws fly low over visitors. So many colors – they'll stay with you long after.

Finally, if you want to see the gorge from another angle, you can take a helicopter flight. From above, you see the entire line of falls, the river's curve, and the forest on both sides of the border – what you had to piece together from the ground now comes together in one sweeping view.

Day 8: Flight to Manaus – Transfer to Mirante do Gavião Lodge

After breakfast, you'll fly to Manaus – the gateway to the central Amazon, from where routes branch out to jungle lodges, river communities, and the islands of the Anavilhanas Archipelago.
For the group transfer, you must arrive in Manaus by 3:00 PM; otherwise, a private transfer will be available at an additional cost.
In Manaus, a driver will meet you. From there, the road leads to Novo Airão, on the banks of the Rio Negro, where Mirante do Gavião Amazon Lodge offers views of the river and the Anavilhanas Archipelago. This VIP Amazon lodge tour is convenient because you don't have to return to Manaus after excursions. Right nearby are the restaurant, lounge, and pier where river trips begin.
You'll stay in a Deluxe room with full board. From the lodge's viewing decks, you can see the river and the Anavilhanas islands. During free time, you can walk out to the pier, relax by the pool, or sit in the lounge. Dinner will be served at the Camu Camu restaurant.
After dinner, you can join a boat tour to observe nocturnal animals.

Optional: Seaplane Transfer with Amazon Flyover & Novo Airão City Tour

There are other ways to reach the lodge. Option one – seaplane: during the transfer, you'll fly over the Rio Negro, forest islands, and channels. Shortly after takeoff, the city disappears, and only the forest, cut by water, remains beneath the wings. Before landing, the plane descends over the river, touches the surface, and approaches the Mirante do Gavião pier right at the lodge.

Price: USD 2,000 for the entire aircraft.
Option two – with a return to Manaus. The route passes over the Amazon and the Meeting of Waters, where the dark Rio Negro flows alongside the light brown Solimões. From the air, the boundary between them is especially clear – two rivers have already joined but continue to flow side by side. The seaplane flight costs USD 1,500 for the group. Alternatively, you can take a regular plane for USD 800 per group.

Day 9: Amazon – Anavilhanas National Park & Local Communities

After breakfast at Camu Camu, you'll board a boat to the communities of Santo Antônio and Tiririca. First, you'll walk through the equatorial forest and learn about life in a local village.
Lunch will be prepared in a traditional home. Freshly caught Amazon fish, grilled over an open fire, is served simply and immediately.
Then the boat will take you to Tiririca Beach, deep within the archipelago. The next part of the journey – Amazon, a tour that begins among the Anavilhanas islands. Anavilhanas National Park consists of hundreds of elongated islands, between which the Rio Negro branches into channels, and the dark water reflects the forest with almost no glare.
After resting and swimming at the beach, you'll head to the giant Macucu tree, which local guides call the largest on the island. On the way back, the boat will pass through an area where pink dolphins live. A quick splash – a smooth back, and within seconds it disappears beneath the dark water.

Day 10: Amazon – Novo Airão, Meeting of Waters & Pink Dolphin Swimming

After breakfast, you can take an optional tour of Novo Airão with a hotel guide by bike or by car.
Today you can also add pink dolphin swimming in the Amazon. Before entering the water, the guide will explain their behavior. The dolphins are free and approach people on their own – a rounded forehead appears at the surface, a short breath is heard, and a second later the animal is back underwater. During the encounter, you can feed the dolphins and take photos. Staff are present at all times.
Then you'll check out and drive to Manaus. The air-conditioned drive takes about two and a half hours. For the group transfer, your flight from Manaus must depart after 2:30 PM; otherwise, a private transfer will be available at an additional cost.

The Meeting of Waters (Rio Negro & Solimões)*

Another optional experience! The boat approaches the point where the river surface divides into two colors. On one side flows the dark water of the Rio Negro, on the other the light brown water of the Solimões. The boundary is visible up close: the boat's wake briefly mixes the colors, but they separate again behind the stern.
Locals call this phenomenon the "wedding of the rivers." The Rio Negro is colored by organic matter from the forest floor; the Solimões carries fine particles of rock and soil from the Andes. The rivers differ in temperature, density, and current speed, so after their confluence, they flow side by side for about six more kilometers – if you dip your hand into the water on either side of the boat, you can feel the temperature difference. From the water, it is clear that this is not a symbolic line: before you are two rivers that have already joined, yet still retain their own colors. Downstream, the combined flow becomes the great Amazon itself.

Day 11: Flight to Recife – Transfer to Porto de Galinhas

After breakfast, you'll be taken to the airport for your flight to Recife, followed by a transfer to Porto de Galinhas, about 60 km south. After several days in the Amazon, you return to the ocean.
Nannai Muro Alto is a beachfront hotel where you'll stay in a two-person bungalow with ocean view. Accommodation includes half-board.
The beaches of Porto de Galinhas each have their own character. In the center of the resort, the surf and boat traffic are more noticeable, while Muro Alto is protected by a long reef wall. Behind it, the sea remains calm, and at low tide, you can clearly see the light sand and small fish. Palm trees grow close to the sand. In the center of Porto de Galinhas, cafés and small shops are open, and at low tide, jangadas – flat local rafts – take visitors out to natural pools among the reefs.

Days 12–15: Beach Relaxation in Porto de Galinhas

Four days of beach vacation in Brazil – at a hotel right on the water: in the morning, no need to wait for a transfer to the sea, and during the day, it's easy to return to your room.
For four days, the schedule is set not by excursions, but by the tides. In the morning, the water is usually calmer, the sun is not yet too bright, and it's easier to spot fish near the reefs.
As the tide goes out, the sea retreats, leaving shallow pools among the rocks. Later, the water returns, covers the reef, and comes closer to shore.
You can swim at Muro Alto, walk along the beach, or stay by the pool. If you're looking for activity, diving and beach buggy tours are available.
This is the richness of a Brazil vacation – after big cities, waterfalls, and the Amazon, you can always spend a few days relaxing by the warm ocean.

Day 16: Transfer to Recife – Flight Recife–Rio & Home

At the designated time, a transfer will take you to Recife airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro. Upon arrival, you'll connect to your international flight home.
In the beginning, this was just a plan on paper – a Brazil travel package with dates, hotels, and flights. Now every name on the itinerary has its own story. New Year in Rio will be remembered for wet sand underfoot and fireworks over the Atlantic. Iguazu leaves you with a sense of raw power – the roar of water drowning out all voices. In the Amazon, you'll recall the dark channels between forest islands; at Muro Alto, the rising and falling tides and the golden beaches.

This is what premium Brazil travel looks like – seeing more in comfort, without rushing or fatigue. You take home not just a list of sights, but emotions. The spray on your face at the Devil's Throat. The brief exhale of a dolphin beside the boat. The white of Copacabana at midnight. Some journeys end at the airport. This one continues – in your memory, and in your heart.

Los hoteles fueron perfectos. Mi favorita fue lq Britania Crystal Miraflores. Yo le daría 4.5 *. Yo recomendaria este tour a qualquiera que quira hacer el tour como yo lo hice. Espero que con las conecciones aerias directas proramadas entre Curacao i Lima ( comensando el fin de año) y con el nuevo aeropuerto international en Cusco en algunos años el turismo desde Curacao sea mas grande.

Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.
