Day 7: Monteverde Cloud Forest & Tarcoles River with Giant Crocodiles
Today, we continue our exploration of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. This reserve was established to protect the unique ecosystem of the Cordillera de Tilarán mountains, sitting at an elevation of over 1,500 meters. Dense mist, profound silence, giant ferns, and trees draped in layers of greenery, from mosses to orchids, define this extraordinary place. It is home to hummingbirds, toucans, monkeys, coatis, and vivid tree frogs, with hanging bridges suspended high between the treetops.
From there, the route takes us across Puntarenas Province toward the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, we stop at the Tárcoles River, famous for its crocodile population, for a boat tour down to the river mouth and through the Guacalillo Canal. You'll have the chance to observe massive American crocodiles, some reaching up to 16 feet (5 meters) in length. The area is also rich in birdlife, with around 50 species present, including scarlet macaws, herons, and many others.
After lunch, we continue to the popular tourist town of Quepos, located just outside Manuel Antonio National Park, often referred to as the jewel of Costa Rica.
Meals included: breakfast and lunch.
