This tour offers a perfect opportunity to admire stunning panoramas, historic churches, and beautifully designed rooftops, all while learning about the colonial art and architecture that defines this vibrant capital. Founded in the 16th century on the ruins of an Inca city, Quito stands at an altitude of 9,350 feet. Despite the devastating earthquake of 1917, it retains the best-preserved historic center in Latin America. As you explore, you’ll discover the intricate architecture and rich interiors that showcase the unique Quito School of sculpture, blending Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Flemish, and indigenous artistic influences. After four incredible hours in the Old Town, you’ll truly appreciate why Quito was the first city in the world to be designated as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. In the afternoon, your adventure continues with a visit to “Ciudad Mitad del Mundo” and the Intiñan Museum. At Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, you’ll find a fascinating blend of tourism, culture, and science. Here, the iconic Equatorial Monument marks the midpoint of the Earth at 0 degrees latitude. Surrounded by beautiful colonial-style architecture and dramatic landscapes, this site invites you to learn about Ecuador’s geographical significance. The monument is topped with a metallic sphere representing the Earth, providing a striking visual centerpiece for this unique location.
Next, you’ll explore the Intiñan Museum, which has been promoting Ecuador’s rich culture since 1960. This interactive museum offers engaging exhibits on how the Incas determined the equator's location and features fun scientific experiments, such as balancing an egg on a nail. This hands-on experience allows you to dive deeper into the fascinating science behind the equator. After a day filled with exploration and discovery, you’ll return to the hotel, where you can unwind and reflect on the remarkable experiences you’ve had in Quito. (Meals: B)
