North Coast Honeymoon

Day 1: Santo Domingo

After arriving at the airport of Santo Domingo, a private transfer will take you to your hotel Casa del Siglo XVI*****, which is located in the historic center of Santo Domingo. The rest of the day is at your disposal. In the evening you can explore the colonial streets, bistros, bars, shops and attractions of the old town on your own.

Day 2: Discover the Zona Colonial and Punta Rucia

The capital of the Dominican Republic combines the modern advantages of an emerging economy with the historic center of the city, "La Zona Colonial", making this a very special place. During a 2 hours guided walking tour through "La Zona Colonial", you will follow Columbus’s footsteps and see (among other things) the oldest cathedral of the New World, castles, ruins and the residency of Columbus's son, Don Diego. You will also visit a cigar manufacturer, where you will see the production of the popular Dominican cigars. The tour ends at our office in the Colonial Zone where we will welcome you with a tropical drink and give you a briefing on your upcoming honeymoon trip. Afterwards a private transfers will take you to your next hotel, the Punta Rucia Lodge in Punta Rucia.

Day 3: Excursion to Cayo Arena

After breakfast you will take a private boat excursion to a small island with a surface area of only 200 square meters and sand as white as snow. The greatest natural pageantry however takes place under the water where the coral reefs provide a magnet for vast varieties of colorful fish and other marine life. Snorkeling in this spectacular natural habitat is an unforgettable experience. The return trip to Punta Rucia takes you through the mangroves of the national park. The rest of the day is at your disposal. Enjoy the beautiful beach close to the hotel and the romantic bonfire which is included. You can also explore the local shops, bars and restaurants close to the hotel.

Day 4: Time to relax in Punta Rucia

This day is at your free disposal. Enjoy the peace and relaxed atmosphere that Punta Rucia offers. We recommend you to visit the beautiful beach of La Ensenada. You can also go and discover the small town of La Isabella, the first place where Columbus set foot on the island. A small fort and a museum can be visited here. In the evening you can enjoy a romantic dinner by the beach.

Day 5: Punta Rucia – Cabarete

After breakfast a private transfer will pick you up and you will follow the north coast to visit the fortress of San Felipe in Puerto Plata. This fortress is the only witness to the XVI century city. Columbus discovered San Felipe de Puerto Plata on his first voyage, 12th January 1493 and called the mountain "Monte Plata" (Mount Silver) because the clouds at the top make it look like silver. The city takes its name from the mountain and is called Puerto Plata (Silver Port). If you want to enjoy a breathtaking view over the north coast, you can take a cable car ride on the "Monte Plata" (now called "Pico Isabel de Torres"). In the afternoon you will arrive at your hotel in Cabarete, which is located directly at the beach.

Day 6: Excursions in Cabarete

Enjoy the day at the beach in Cabarete. If you prefer to stay out of the sun or the activities at the hotel do not suit you, we can recommend nearby activities. For example canyoning in the "27 Charcos". On this trip you will first hike 20 minutes through tropical vegetation to reach the river canyon Damajagua. Protected with a helmet and a vest, you jump down the 27 waterfalls and swim through deep canyons. Another option is the adventure park 'Monkey Jungle'. This nature wonderland covers over 800,000 square meters of mountains and valleys. There is a network of zip-lines throughout the park. Get harnessed up and ride the cables from mountain top to mountain top.

Day 7-8: Cabarete

These two days are perfect to relax and enjoy the beach of Cabarete or do one of the many activities offered by the hotel, such as yoga or kitesurfing. Your honeymoon package already includes a safari truck excursion to Puerto Plata and its surroundings in order for you to experience the land, culture and people of the Dominican Republic. In the evening you can enjoy a romantic dinner included in your honeymoon package.

Day 9: Cabarete - Playa Grande - Las Terrenas

The adventure continues after breakfast with a short drive with a private transfer to Playa Grande, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. There you can enjoy the beach and a delicious lunch of lobster, fish or chicken. After lunch you will keep on driving east, passing beautiful landscapes, banana plantations, rice fields and amazing beaches. After about a two hours’ drive you’ll arrive in Las Terrenas, a quiet fishing town known for its wonderful beaches and its numerous stores, restaurants and bars. Here you will enjoy the rest of your stay in the adults only Viva Wyndham V Samana Resort**** with all-inclusive.

Day 10: National Park "Los Haitises" / Whale watching

In the morning you will head to Samana, where a boat will take you on a tour through the National Park “Los Haitises”. Cruising through secluded islands, bays and rock formations you will visit the “Las Lineas” and the “San Gabriel” cave. In the caves you can find painting and carvings of the Tainos, the original inhabitants of the Dominican Republic. On your tour you will see the lush vegetation surrounding you and an incredible variety of birds. As an alternative there is the possibility from early January to mid-March, to see the humpback whales in the warm waters of the Samaná Bay. A boat trip will take you close to these huge marine mammals in their natural environment. A really unique experience! Afterwards you will return to your hotel in Las Terrenas. Driving time: 45 minutes

Day 11: Relax in Las Terrenas

The day is at your free disposal. Enjoy the exclusive service of the adults’ only V Samana resort. Relax at the pool, take a long walk at the pristine beach or take the opportunity to spoil yourself with a romantic couple massage at the hotel.

Day 12: Romantic overnight stay at Playa El Valle
Today you can expect a unique experience! A private transfer will pick you up and drive you to the stunning beach of El Valle. This wild beach offers a romantic scenery with its untouched nature and small wooden bars at the beach. You will stay at the romantic Unique Eco-Hotel with a room right on the beach. Enjoy the day and feel the mystical atmosphere in this still secret place.

Day 13-14: Las Terrenas and possible excursions

A private transfer will pick you up from El Valle at your desired time and take you back to the all-inclusive Resort V Samana in Las Terrenas. Enjoy the last two days in this modern resort at the beach. To make your stay even more exciting, the following excursions can be booked on request: - Waterfall El Limon: You can hike or take a horseback riding trip to the spectacular waterfall "El Limón". This excursion starts right behind the small town of El Limón. Here you have the opportunity to climb on horses and ride comfortably to the 50-meter-high waterfall. You will have enough time to take great photos and refresh yourself in the cool water. On the way back you will enjoy a rich Dominican lunch. - Beach El Rincon & Fronton: Visit two of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic and enjoy fresh lobster on the beach. You will drive to Las Galeras, where a boat will take you to the two secluded beaches. The tour also includes a lobster lunch at the beach.

Day 15: Las Terrenas – Airport Santo Domingo

Hi Anna, thank you for the update on the glasses. I’ll wait and see what happens! Alan and I are now back in the UK. We loved our trip to the Pantanal and Bonito. Our guide, Alessandra was brilliant with lots of knowledge and very considerate and helpful. The only hitch we had was on our flight back to Rio because the second leg of the trip was cancelled and we were rescheduled to a later plane and our luggage was mislaid. Fortunately it arrived in Rio a day later, before we flew home. Thank you for arranging the trip.
