When is the best time to visit the Marvellous city?
The short answer is ‘All year round!.’ Rio de Janeiro is also known as the Marvellous City. When you arrive it is immediately obvious why! Rio de Janeiro is situated on golden sand beaches, and the urban sprawl of the city of Rio de Janeiro merges seamlessly into the lush green forests of the Tijuca National Park surrounding you with lush nature wherever you go. There are four distinct seasons, and whilst they are different from the traditional seasons experienced in most temperate regions there is always something to do in this bustling, vibrant and culturally rich city. Attractions like ‘Christ the Redeemer’ and ‘Sugar loaf’ mountain can be visited all year round as can many of the museums and markets spread out across the city. Often a day of rain is all that is needed to clear the air before days of endless sunshine return! Summer (December to March): Weather: The weather is hot and humid with most daily temperatures reaching between 30-40°C (86-104°F). It does rain but for short sharp bursts, normally in the late afternoon after the long hot days, so this is welcome to cool down! Activities: The ideal time for hanging out at the beach soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying a refreshing swim in the sea. The famous Carnival is celebrated unofficially throughout the summer months and officially for a week in February or March. The city comes to life with music and dancing and colour! Autumn (March to June): Weather: The weather is still warm but with decreasing humidity and temperatures, usually ranging from 22-28°C (72-82°F). Activities: The temperatures remain warm enough for hanging out at the beach, observing Rio beach life. It is a great time for exploring Tijuca Forest which is just on the edge of Rio, as the weather becomes more comfortable and less rainy. Winter (June to September): Weather: Don’t let the word ‘winter’ put you off coming to Rio at this time of year! The temperatures are mild and dry, ranging from 18-25°C (64-77°F). While it’s cooler, it is very pleasant and rarely ever cold. Activities: This is an excellent time for sightseeing and exploring the city without the intense summer heat. Hiking and exploring Rio’s surrounding parks is the best at this time of year. It is still warm enough to enjoy the beach most days and the beach remains full of sunbathers, volleyball, futivolley and beach tennis groups. Spring (September to December):
