A flight through Lima can leave you seeing little beyond the airport and a hotel. Yet the capital brings together the colonial streets, food and oceanfront neighbourhoods that make a Peru trip feel very different from one day to the next.

Absolutely. Lima offers a rich blend of history, culture, and cuisine. Founded in 1535 Lima was, for a time, one of the most important cities in the Americas. Lima’s historical centre is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, so you can visit splendid samples of Colonial architecture surrounding the Plaza Mayor de Lima, like the Cathedral, the Convent of Santo Domingo, and the Convent of San Francisco.
You can admire the fantastic carved Archbishop's Palace, the oldest house in Lima, Casa Aliaga, the Government Palace where the changing of the guard takes place, and the 18th-century Torre Tagle Palace.
Choose which interiors matter before setting out. The Ministry of Culture describes the San Francisco museum and convent as a place to see colonial art and architecture as well as the catacombs. It offers a different visit from looking at façades around the square, so leave time for the experience you actually want.
Lima has a variety of museums, such as the Larco Museum, which showcases pre-Columbian art, and the National Museum of Archaeology. A museum visit also gives the ancient cultures of Peru a place in the journey before you move on to other regions. The coast gives a Lima stay a slower stretch after the historic centre. Miraflores municipality places Parque del Amor on Malecón Cisneros, with its sculpture and mosaic walls. As checked on 23 October 2026, Jorge Chávez airport places its authorised taxi counters in domestic and international arrivals. Its bus information also lists an airport service to stops in Miraflores. Those are transport options to understand when planning individual arrivals; a group movement needs its own meeting and vehicle plan.
