5 Countries tour - Rio Carnival & Machu Picchu

Day 1. Arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Transfer to Hotel

In Rio, your introduction to the city starts on the road from the airport. You'll see neighborhoods press against the cliffs, then open up to reveal bays and a strip of ocean. On the hillsides, houses stand tightly packed - this is your first glimpse of Rio's favelas. By evening, hundreds of lights flicker across the slopes, illuminating the hills.

Brazil Carnival tours usually demand plenty of energy, so after the transfer, there's no rush into sightseeing. Your first evening is free. Take a shower, change, and step out to Copacabana without a plan or a group. The warm breeze quickly tangles your hair, your feet pick up the wavy pattern of the boardwalk, and the ocean's roar drowns out the city's voices.

You'll have plenty of time to get to know the city and learn how Rio's Carnival history evolved - from street processions to the samba school competition. For now, just take it slow, sip something cold, and watch the runners and volleyball players go by.

Day 2. Rio City Tour. Sugarloaf Mountain Ascent. Evening - Champions' Parade at the Sambadrome

After breakfast, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby. From Praia Vermelha, the cable car lifts you first to Urca, then to Sugarloaf Mountain. Here you see Rio from the ocean side: Copacabana curving along the water, islands breaking the horizon, the Niterói Bridge crossing the bay in a thin line.

Then you'll drive through the old center past colonial facades, churches, monasteries, and the cathedral. The route may shift due to Carnival street closures.

After some rest, a transfer takes you to the Rio Sambadrome. The night competition of color, rhythm, and artistry begins. The Samba School Parade in Rio runs without pause: percussion sections set the pulse, floats fill the avenue, and Carnival costumes - which Brazilian samba schools spent a full year preparing - flash under the spotlights. The Champions' Parade lasts all night. It's the kind of spectacle that genuinely holds your attention from start to finish.

Afterward, you'll be transferred back to your hotel to recover from the night's celebration.

Day 3. Corcovado Tour to Christ the Redeemer. City Panorama

After breakfast, you'll meet your guide and head to the Corcovado station. The green Corcovado train slowly gains altitude, and the city outside the windows gives way to damp forest. Branches come close to the cars, and between the trunks, the bay and rooftops appear briefly.

From the summit, you can see the bay, Sugarloaf, Maracanã Stadium, and neighborhoods nestled between the hills. Looking down from Corcovado, you understand how deeply the city is connected to its hills, lagoons, and coastal strips.

People come up here for more than just the view. From different parts of the city, Christ the Redeemer in Rio appears as a distant figure above the skyline, but at the summit, that familiar silhouette becomes almost personal. Some rush to take photos; others put their phones away and simply look up for a few minutes. The open arms mean different things to different people - a greeting, protection, or a rare chance to pause.

This Latin America tour continues, but this encounter with Rio's symbol will remain one of its most intimate moments.

Day 4. Flight Rio - Foz do Iguaçu. Transfer to Hotel

After breakfast, a driver will take you to the airport. Today, the Latin America itinerary shifts mood: bustling Rio stays behind, and ahead lies Foz do Iguaçu with its humid Atlantic Forest. After the flight, you'll be met and taken to your chosen hotel.

A multi-day South America tour brings you here for the waterfalls. Iguazu was born on the steps of ancient basalt flows: the river eroded weak spots between rock layers, collapsing edges one after another. This process continues today - the falls slowly retreat upstream, leaving a canyon behind, while the constant mist sustains the national park's dense greenery.

Iguazu isn't a single vertical wall of water. The river splits around islands and drops over basalt ledges in a couple hundred streams. The most powerful section is called the Devil's Throat: the waterfall disappears into a gorge with a roar you can hear long before you reach the viewing platform.

Iguazu National Park surrounds the cascades with dense forest. Coatis, monkeys, and toucans live here, and a water cloud hangs over the trees almost constantly.

Day 5. Brazilian Side of Iguazu Falls. Devil's Throat

After breakfast, you'll head to the falls with your guide. The Brazilian side doesn't rush toward the water. The trail keeps its distance at first, which gives you a major advantage - the cascades gradually come into view until the entire curve of the canyon opens before you.

With each turn, more streams appear. Some fall in narrow ribbons, others merge into a white wall with mist hanging above. This way, you're not just seeing a single waterfall, but an entire river that suddenly lost its footing. Upstream, the river flows calmly and lazily; here, it transforms into something dangerous and immense.

At the Devil's Throat, the calm surface drops away right in front of the walkway. The roar resonates in your chest, spray settles on your face, and your eyes can't quite follow the falling water. This is where you truly feel why the Guarani Indians named it Iguazu - "Big Water." All you can do is watch and marvel.

Optional Excursions: Iguazu Bird Park

At the Bird Park, you don't have to observe the residents from a distance. You step into spacious aviaries where scarlet ibises and macaws fly over the path, and toucans perch on branches at eye level. The rustle of wings, sharp calls, and movement in the canopy give you a sense of just how noisy the rainforest can be away from the tourist trails.

Optional Excursions: Macuco Safari

The Macuco Safari lets you feel the power of the falls up close. First, an open jeep takes you through the jungle while your guide shares insights about local plants and animals. After a short walk, you board a motorboat. It approaches the cascades so closely that staying dry is impossible: spray flies over the sides, rainbows form above the water, and the roar drowns out the passengers' laughter.

Day 6. Argentine Side of Iguazu Falls. Flight to Buenos Aires. Transfer to Hotel

After breakfast, you'll cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge and head into the park with your guide.

The Argentine side of Iguazu is built as three sequential encounters with the same river. The Upper Circuit runs above the cascades. The water still looks calm, but within a few steps, it disappears over the edge right beneath your feet.

The Lower Circuit descends along the slope: from here, the streams are visible from the side and below, with spray reaching the walkways.

The third route takes you on an ecological train and along catwalks across the wide riverbed to the Devil's Throat. At the very edge, there's only the roar and a white veil; access to the platform depends on the water level.

This is how it works on the Argentine side - you can walk across the bridges and see the falls from above, from below, and almost from the center of the river.

After the excursion, you'll be taken to the airport. Next is a flight to Buenos Aires, where a driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 7. Buenos Aires City Tour. La Boca, San Telmo, Recoleta. Evening - Tango Show

After breakfast, you'll set out on a city tour with your guide to see Buenos Aires from different angles (3 hours). At Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires turns official and formal: the Casa Rosada - the presidential palace - stands here, tied to the country's major political events. In San Telmo, Buenos Aires returns to the life of the old port - cobblestone streets, inner courtyards, and antique shops. Then the city shifts again: in Puerto Madero, former docks sit alongside glass towers and a waterfront promenade.

In the evening, a tango show with dinner awaits. For locals, Argentine tango isn't a polished performance for tourists. It's part of the city's memory, born from the music of port neighborhoods. The couple moves in a close embrace, but the dance isn't built on a rehearsed sequence: the partner leads, the partner responds, both listen to the music and to each other. The room gradually falls silent, and even the wine glass stays on the table. Dinner and Argentine wines accompany the evening without pulling your attention from the stage.

Day 8. Flight Buenos Aires - Santiago de Chile. Transfer to Hotel

After breakfast, you'll be taken to Buenos Aires airport. The flight to Santiago shifts the direction of your journey: the coastal cities stay behind, and from here, the route heads through the Andes. Next come the sections that make Bolivia tours and Peru tours so appealing - high-altitude lagoons, the Uyuni salt flats, Lake Titicaca, and the stone cities of the Incas.

Upon arrival, a driver will meet you and take you to your hotel. Santiago de Chile tours introduce you to a more restrained capital. After Buenos Aires, it feels composed and calm: wide avenues run between business districts, old plazas hide behind modern facades, and on clear days, the Andes appear unexpectedly at the end of the street.

Santiago doesn't try to impress you from the first minute. It gradually trains you to lift your gaze above the rooftops, notice the dry, transparent light, and feel the nearness of the mountains that will become central to the journey tomorrow.

Day 9. Santiago City Tour. Santa Lucía Hill

After breakfast, a Santiago de Chile city tour with your guide awaits. At La Moneda Palace, Santiago looks official and restrained: clean facade lines, a spacious square, and the guard remind you that this is the country's government center.

At Plaza de Armas, Santiago grows livelier. Between the cathedral, the post office, and old administrative buildings, office workers hurry past, street musicians perform, and locals meet. Then the route climbs Santa Lucía Hill. From its terraces, it's easy to survey the center, modern districts, and the Andes, which on clear days stand behind the city as a solid wall.

The tour continues along the Mapocho River through Vitacura, Las Condes, and Providencia. Here Santiago opens up: parks, office towers, residential neighborhoods, and open café terraces pass by the windows.

Optionally, you can head to the Maipo Valley for a winery tour and tasting among the vineyards at the foot of the Andes.

Day 10. Flight Santiago - Calama. Transfer to San Pedro de Atacama

After a transfer to the airport, you'll fly north. Upon arrival, Calama, Chile greets you with dry air, harsh light, and almost no greenery. From here, the road leads through the desert to San Pedro de Atacama - a small town of low adobe houses with volcanoes on the horizon.

Atacama isn't a monotonous emptiness. The color of the earth shifts from pale gray to copper, salt flats appear along the road, and the folds of the Cordillera come into view. In this silence, you start noticing even the movement of your own shadow.

San Pedro will be your last stop in Chile. Tomorrow, the route continues in jeeps across the Altiplano from the Bolivian border.

For an additional fee, you can book an astronomy tour in the Atacama Desert. Thanks to the dry climate, high altitude, and near-total absence of light pollution, the Milky Way, Southern Hemisphere constellations, planets, and distant galaxies are exceptionally clear here. Price: USD 350 per person (minimum 2 participants).

Day 11. 4x4 Tour into Bolivia. Laguna Verde, Valley of the Moon, Geysers, Laguna Colorada

In the morning, you'll head to the Bolivian border, where you'll transfer to 4x4 vehicles. The Laguna Verde - Uyuni section starts at the foot of the Licancabur volcano. The water here changes shade with the wind and light, and beyond the shore, there are no trees or buildings - just the volcano and open plain.

Further on, the Valley of the Moon presents strange stone figures scattered across the desert. They stand far apart, and your imagination naturally fills in familiar shapes. At the Polques hot springs, cold air mixes with warm steam.

The Sol de Mañana geysers are audible before they come into view: the ground hisses, steam bursts from openings, and hot mud slowly moves in gray craters.

The last stop is Laguna Colorada: James's flamingos feed in the shallows, their pink forms almost dissolving against the reddish water.

Overnight in a desert expedition-style lodge.

Day 12. 4x4 Tour Across the Uyuni Salt Flat. Salar de Uyuni. Incahuasi Island

After breakfast, the jeeps pass several scenic lagoons and stop at the Olague volcano. A thin trail of smoke is sometimes visible above the crater, and further on, the road crosses the dark Chiguana salt flat, rich in sodium and potassium nitrate deposits.

Then comes the Uyuni salt flat - a tour across a space where your sense of distance nearly disappears. In dry weather, the salt forms a regular pattern of polygons. After rain, a thin layer of water erases the horizon, and the jeep seems to move between two identical skies.

In the village of Colchani, you see Uyuni from a practical angle. You'll watch how salt is collected and prepared for processing, then stop at the "Eye of Water" - an underground spring outlet. On Incahuasi Island, giant cacti grow from the white plain, and from the rocky slopes, the full scale of the salt flat becomes especially clear.

Lunch will be a boxed meal. In the evening, you'll reach the town of Uyuni and check into your hotel.

Day 13. Flight Uyuni - La Paz. La Paz City Tour. Valley of the Moon

After breakfast, you'll be taken to Uyuni airport. Upon arrival, a driver will meet you and take you to your hotel. Bolivia tours rarely prepare you for your first sight of La Paz: the city lies deep between slopes, with brick houses climbing almost to the very top.

During the city tour (4 hours), you'll see the historic center. La Paz highlights include the Witches' Market, where herbs, amulets, figurines, and offerings to Pachamama are sold. For locals, this isn't a tourist attraction - it's part of traditional beliefs about protecting the home, health, and luck. So it's more interesting not just to browse the goods, but to listen to your guide's explanations.

Then comes the Valley of the Moon - La Paz remains close by, yet among the sharp earthen towers, the city is barely noticeable. Water and wind gradually eroded the soft rock, leaving narrow passages and ridges. In the sun, they look pale; a few steps away, they sink into deep shadow. A truly otherworldly sight.

Day 14. Tiwanaku Excursion. Transfer to Puno. Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca

The route to Peru passes through Tiwanaku, Bolivia. Here, on an empty high plateau, the Sun Gate, monoliths, and walls of the Kalasasaya Temple look especially austere. It's fascinating to observe the ancient craftsmanship: large blocks in the pyramids are fitted without gaps, and carved grooves match the shape of adjacent pieces.

After crossing the border, you'll be taken to your hotel. In the town of Desaguadero, the excursion concludes, and a transfer from there will take you to Puno and your hotel.

For the trip to the Uros Islands, Puno serves as the starting point. In the afternoon, you'll board a boat at the city dock and head out onto the open waters of Lake Titicaca for an excursion with an English-speaking guide. The Lake Titicaca Uros Islands route leads through totora reeds to small floating settlements.

The Uros floating islands give slightly under each step and smell of dry reeds. Residents regularly add new layers, weave boats, fish, and sell handmade crafts. Here, the land isn't given once and for all by nature - it has to be constantly rebuilt by hand.

Day 15. Transfer Puno - Cusco. Stops Along the Way

After breakfast, you'll head to the bus station. The road to Cusco takes most of the day, but it unfolds like an excursion in itself - with stops, lunch, and constantly shifting scenery.

The first stop is Andahuaylillas: the Sistine Chapel of South America. Behind its modest facade lies a painted ceiling, frescoes, and a gilded altar, so the real impact happens once you step inside. Further on, at the Racchi - Cusco stretch, you'll see the Temple of Viracocha: tall stone-and-clay walls still give a sense of the Inca complex's original scale.

After lunch in Sicuani, the bus climbs to the La Raya pass. The air turns noticeably colder, mountains surround you, and a small market operates by the roadside. The last stop is Pukara, linked to a pre-Inca culture.

In the evening, your Cusco tour brings you to the capital of Inca history. At the bus station, a driver will meet you and take you to your hotel.

Day 16. Full-Day Machu Picchu Excursion. Return to Cusco

After breakfast, a full-day Machu Picchu tour with an English-speaking guide awaits. The road gradually moves from dry mountain valleys to wetter slopes, where clouds cling to the peaks and dense greenery approaches the railway tracks.

Machu Picchu doesn't reveal itself all at once. First, you see separate walls and terraces, then your gaze pieces them together into a whole city that follows the shape of the mountain ridge. Stone blocks are fitted without mortar, stairways connect one level to another, and beyond the structures, a steep green slope drops away immediately.

These are the moments that make Peru tours worth choosing: a place you know from photos suddenly gains depth, sound, and its own weather. You want to walk slowly, studying the stonework and imagining daily life among these mountains.

After the excursion, lunch is included. Then you'll return by train to Cusco, where a driver will meet you and take you to your hotel.

Day 17. Cusco City Tour. Coricancha, Sacsayhuamán. Flight Cusco - Lima

After breakfast, your guide will lead a city tour. First, Cusco reveals the Coricancha - the Temple of the Sun, on whose walls a Spanish monastery now stands. The contrast is immediate: Inca blocks are tightly fitted and slightly inclined inward, while the colonial masonry looks rougher by comparison.

Beyond the city, the route continues at Q'enqo, with its carved stone passages. From the Sacsayhuamán complex, Cusco is visible almost in its entirety, but your attention quickly returns to the walls themselves: individual stones taller than a person, each with its own shape, fitting precisely against its neighbors. The site includes religious structures, a fortress, towers, and water channels.

Pukapukara was a former guard post built of reddish stones. Tambomachay completes your introduction to Inca engineering: water still flows through stone channels and emerges in straight streams.

After the tour, you'll be taken to the airport. Flight to Lima, meet-and-greet, and transfer to your hotel.

Day 18. Lima City Tour. Larco Museum. Transfer to Airport. Departure Home

After breakfast, a Lima city tour with your guide awaits. The first stop is the Love Park in Miraflores: from here, you overlook Lima and the Pacific Ocean, waves breaking at the foot of the high cliffs, and the capital's modern districts stretching along the bluff.

On the way to the historic center, you'll see the ancient Huaca Huallamarca pyramid. At the main square, the mood shifts to stately official buildings: the Presidential Palace, City Hall, and the Cathedral stand around it. If the cathedral is closed, it will be replaced by a visit to the Lima Art Museum.

Next is the Santo Domingo Monastery in Lima. Behind its courtyards and galleries, it holds the memory of Saint Rose and Saint Martin de Porres. The program concludes with the Larco Museum in Lima: housed in a colonial mansion, it displays gold, textiles, and pottery from pre-Columbian cultures, including the famous erotic collection.

A fitting end to a Peru tour - objects that outlasted the civilizations that created them. After the excursion, you'll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.

Me quede muy impresionado de la cultura Inca y la visita al Machu Picchu era una experiencia espiritual elevadora. El viaje de Arequipa a Nasca de 10 horas por bus era agotador. Llegue dormido a Nasca y me tuvieron que departar. Comprendo que para poder ver a el condor y también volar sobra el desierto de Nasca este viaje fue la mejor opción.
Los hoteles fueron perfectos. Mi favorita fue lq Britania Crystal Miraflores. Yo le daría 4.5 *. Yo recomendaria este tour a qualquiera que quira hacer el tour como yo lo hice. Espero que con las conecciones aerias directas proramadas entre Curacao i Lima ( comensando el fin de año) y con el nuevo aeropuerto international en Cusco en algunos años el turismo desde Curacao sea mas grande.

Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.

In Rio, at the hotel, we were greeted with champagne!!! ????
The coordinators also sent us photos of the cars and staff who met us, which made it easy to find our way around. The buses were large, new, comfortable, clean, and always stocked with bottled water in the fridge.
Our escorts checked us in for the domestic flights and stayed with us right up until passport control!
