Day 01: San José / Poas Volcano / La Paz Waterfall Gardens / Arenal Volcano

Arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport. A transfer will meet you at the airport. This morning you will be picked for your journey towards the Central Mountain Range to visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Poas Volcano. As we ascend toward the Poas Volcano we will notice the change in temperature and vegetation; we will see coffee plantations and fern, flower, and strawberry farms along the way, creating a beautiful landscape. In the Poas Volcano, we will admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles and learn about the different ecosystems in this beautiful national park. Following the visit to the volcano, we will continue to La Paz Waterfall Garden for lunch and a tour. On arrival in La Paz, we will walk through a trail, leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Inside the park, we will also visit the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the birdhouse, the butterfly garden, and the frog exhibit. Continue to the northern lowlands of Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna town. Relax in the best hot springs of the area. Overnight at Hotel Arenal Paraíso Resort & Spa. (Meals: L)

Day 02: Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

Breakfast at the Hotel. You will enjoy the Caño Negro & Río Frío Boat Tour, especially for Nature Lovers! This tour highlight is a boat ride on the Frío River, starting at Los Chiles, a little town located 4 km from the Nicaraguan border. This river is part of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge – a Ramsar site- here you will find one of the most diverse flora and fauna habitats in Costa Rica. Along the river, it is possible to observe a great number of birds like the snakebird, herons, cormorants, and animals such as howlers, spiders or even white face monkeys, three-toed sloths, and some reptiles like caimans, Jesus Christ lizards, and turtles. After lunch, back to Arenal. Overnight at Hotel Arenal Paraíso Resort & Spa. (Meals: B, L)

Day 03: Celeste River

Rio Celeste National Park Guided Hike - In search of the blue waterfall in Costa Rica! The Rio Celeste National Park is a beautiful 1.5-hour scenic drive from the Arenal Volcano through rural villages. The Río Celeste waterfall is near the Tenorio and Miravalles Volcanoes and is becoming an increasingly popular area to visit in Costa Rica for hiking. Once we arrive, we will begin hiking through the dense, lush, tropical rainforest surrounding the Tenorio National Park. You and your nature guide can go at your own pace, and you'll learn interesting things about the rainforest along the way. When we arrive at Los Tenideros, where two rivers come together, you'll be amazed at the celestial turquoise blue watercolor that comes from the waterfall. Local legend explained by members of the Maleku indigenous group of the area claims that God was painting the sky a celestial blue color and reached down to dip his brush to turn the river its magical blue color. But for a more scientific explanation, the celestial blue color is created when the minerals in the water: aluminum, silicon, and oxygen are suspended in the water and refract light from the sun so that the flow looks blue. Day 04: Arenal Volcano / Tamarindo Beach

The Arenal Hanging Bridges at Mistico Park is a beautiful, environmentally friendly nature project located near the Arenal Volcano for walking tours. This is considered one of the best nature walks in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Some trails and bridges bring you as close as you could ever hope to get to the birds, flowers, and lush vegetation of this primary rainforest. This is the perfect tour for nature enthusiasts visiting Costa Rica! The trails are designed for all ability levels and cover a total of about 2 miles. Once you are walking along, you will be able to admire the great diversity of flora and fauna typically found in the tropical rainforest and also have the opportunity to see many different birds and plant species for approx. 2.5 hrs. Walk right into the forest along several stretches of hanging bridges overlooking the tree canopy along easy, safe, and beautiful trails with views of the Arenal Volcano. Appreciate the wildlife as you cross the 15 different bridges, 6 of them are the ones hanging. Transfer to Tamarindo Beach.

Day 05-06: Tamarindo Beach

Free Days. Overnight at Wyndham Tamarindo. (Meals: B)

Day 07: San José

Transfer to Juan Santamaria International Airport. (Meals: B)

Our guide, Alessandra was brilliant with lots of knowledge and very considerate and helpful. The only hitch we had was on our flight back to Rio because the second leg of the trip was cancelled and we were rescheduled to a later plane and our luggage was mislaid.
