Experience Rio: New Year's Eve on Copacabana Beach

Top hightlights

This 7 day Brazil New Year tour is vivid and full of variety - from the rhythm of the city to the power of nature, from noise to quiet, from movement to stillness. New Year in Rio is truly tropical: you celebrate at the water's edge on a warm beach, with the sound of waves and fireworks launching straight from the ocean. Then the route takes you to Iguazu Falls New Year - where the usual distance between you and nature disappears completely. This New Year Brazil package gives you something rare: in a short time, you experience several completely different states of mind, one after the other. You leave not with a collection of photos but with the memory of caught moments - how the ocean sounds, how Rio looks from above, how your own perception shifts.

You spend New Year's Eve in Rio right at the edge of the ocean on Copacabana beach. Around you, people in white gather by the water, send lights and flowers floating, and fireworks rise straight from the surface, blurring the horizon.
You ascend Corcovado mountain – and for the first time see Rio as a whole. From above, the city ceases to be chaotic: the arcs of beaches, hills, and neighborhoods fall into a clear system that is easy to read.
Sugarloaf mountain gives you another perspective on Rio. Here you are at eye level with the horizon: the ocean is almost within reach, the shoreline stretches out, boats cross the bay, and Rio looks not like a grid of districts and streets, but like a continuous flow of movement.
Iguazu Falls begins with sound. Even before you see the waterfalls, a rumble reaches you, growing denser with every step. The cascades come one after another, and at some point distance disappears – you are no longer a spectator, but inside Iguazu, above and below the falls.
The Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls helps you take in the whole system: the entire line of cascades lies before you. The Argentine side lets you approach right up close – water beside you, under your feet, over your head – and the feeling of space changes with literally every step.
This New Year tour to Brazil, Argentina and Chile is a whole bouquet of bright colors and emotions. There is anticipation of the celebration and the most iconic day, full‑day excursions, and moments of contemplation. And at some point, you catch a rare feeling of peace and acceptance – nothing needs to be controlled or explained; you can simply surrender to joy and enjoy the moment.

Your 7-Day New Year Itinerary: Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls

Itinerary
Day 1 (Dec 30): Arrival in Rio de Janeiro
Flight arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Airport transfer and hotel check-in.
Rio opens up gradually: palm trees along the roads, green slopes, houses on streets climbing the hillsides. The mountains and the ocean are the two forces that define life in Rio. In the evening the city changes: the hills darken, lights come on along the coast. The beaches start to fill. People try on white clothes, stages and sound systems are being set up - the first signs that your Rio New Year tour is about to begin. In the cafés by the ocean, chilled juices arrive with ice clinking in the glasses. You are about to see this same beach filled with thousands of people. Three rules for New Year in Rio: be on the beach, wear white, and bring offerings for Yemanja.
Day 1 (Dec 30): Arrival in Rio de Janeiro -0
Day 2 (Dec 31): Christ the Redeemer & New Year Eve on Copacabana
After breakfast, you head to the Christ the Redeemer tour on Corcovado Mountain. The Corcovado train carries you up through the forest. At the top, the statue simply exists - a point of balance above the whole city. You look out and see how Rio sits comfortably in its bowl between the mountains and the ocean.
Then rest and preparation before the evening. The weather in Rio in January is warm and stable - perfect for a beach celebration. And then the night arrives. Around you: people in white clothes carrying flowers, candles, and small baskets of offerings. These are gently placed in the water as part of the Yemanja offering - asking the goddess of the sea for protection and luck in the new year. This is how New Year in Brazil traditions are lived, not just observed. When the countdown begins, the Rio New Year fireworks 2026 launch from platforms in the ocean. The Copacabana New Year fireworks light up the water and erase the line of the horizon.

*Optional: book a New Year's Eve dinner or party at one of the Copacabana beachfront hotels. Price on request.
Day 2 (Dec 31): Christ the Redeemer & New Year Eve on Copacabana -1
Day 3 (Jan 1): Sugarloaf Mountain New Year – Panoramas on New Year's Day
After breakfast, you head to Sugarloaf Mountain New Year. The Sugarloaf Mountain cable car lifts off almost from the water's edge at Red Beach. First stop: Urca Hill — slopes, bays, and the dense city buildings along the ocean shore. The wind from the water cools the heat, and the viewpoint is a good place to stop with a drink and look out over the city.
The second cable car takes you to the top. From here, Rio feels closer than from Corcovado. The ocean is right there, you can see the waves washing over Copacabana beach, Ipanema beach stretching away, and the boats crossing the beautiful Guanabara Bay.
Then a city tour through the key neighborhoods: colonial facades, the Lapa arches and promenades. You may stop at the Rio Cathedral and take photos at the colorful Selaron Steps. A walk through Santa Teresa neighborhood gives you the most atmospheric corner of Rio.

*Route may be adjusted due to New Year public holiday crowds.
Day 3 (Jan 1): Sugarloaf Mountain New Year – Panoramas on New Year's Day -2
Day 4 (Jan 2): Fly to Iguazu Falls
Today, your Rio and Iguazu Falls tour takes you south. After breakfast, you fly from Rio to Foz do Iguaçu. On arrival, the change of space is immediate: the air becomes denser and more humid, the sound softer. The drive to the hotel passes through the National Park's dense tropical green.
Iguazu Falls tours bring you to a system formed by a basalt plateau fracture on the border of Brazil and Argentina. The river gathers speed and plunges into the canyon, creating a constant roar. This is not one waterfall - it is a system of more than 270 streams stretched over nearly 3 kilometers. Iguazu Falls New Year is a perfect continuation of the celebration: the endless flow, the noise that clears your mind, the raw closeness of a natural force.
Day 4 (Jan 2): Fly to Iguazu Falls -3
Day 5 (Jan 3): Iguazu Falls – The Brazilian Side (+ Optional Extras)
After breakfast, you head to the Iguazu Falls Brazilian side. The trail runs along the canyon and the roar is audible before the water comes into view. Then the line of cascades opens up. The Guaraní people called this place "Big Water" - and from the Brazilian side, you see why: the entire system is visible at once, not individual waterfalls but one continuous movement of water.
In December–January, Iguazu Falls New Year season means high water: the flows are more powerful, the sound is denser, and the spray cloud rises higher than usual. The trail leads to Devil's Throat Iguazu - the most powerful stream, dropping into a narrow canyon. Your clothes are quickly damp and on a sunny day rainbows hang in the air.
Day 5 (Jan 3): Iguazu Falls – The Brazilian Side (+ Optional Extras) -4
Iguazu Bird Park* ($50/person)
Iguazu Bird Park - near Iguazu National Park. You walk inside the enclosures. Birds fly at eye level and land on branches right beside you. Deep blue and bright yellow on the macaws, orange and red on the toucans' beaks, the pink of flamingos, the quick flash of hummingbirds. A beautiful and rare closeness with nature.
Iguazu Bird Park* ($50/person) -5
Macuco Safari* ($130/person)
Macuco Safari - boat ride Iguazu Falls: a jeep ride through the dense jungle, then a motorboat that heads directly towards the falls. The distance keeps shrinking until the streams are no longer ahead of you but above and around you. The water hits the surface beside the boat, raises a dense curtain of spray, and in a second you are completely inside the movement. Pure adrenaline.
Macuco Safari* ($130/person) -6
Day 6 (Jan 4): Argentine Side of Iguazu & Devil's Throat
Early morning departure for the Iguazu Falls Argentine side. If the Brazilian side is best for panoramic views, the Argentine side is about being at the level of the falls - and below them. This is why Iguazu Falls both sides is included in this New Year Brazil package - so you actually touch the natural force, not just observe it.
Three routes to choose from:

- Lower Circuit (1,700 m, about 1h 45min): the trail descends to the water. You see the Alvár Nuñez, Elenita, and Lanusse cascades. The most beautiful waterfall here is Bosetti - it falls as a solid unbroken wall.

- Upper Circuit (1,300 m, about 1 hour): you walk along the edge - the water slows, gathers, and goes over almost at your feet. The most colorful waterfalls: Adam and Eve.

- Devil's Throat Iguazu / Devil's Throat New Year (1,000 m, 1–1.5 hours): the stream drops 82 meters into a narrow canyon. Spray rises upward, you stand at the edge and cannot look away from this overwhelming natural wonder.
Day 6 (Jan 4): Argentine Side of Iguazu & Devil's Throat -7
Day 7 (Jan 5): Departure from Foz do Iguaçu
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Foz do Iguaçu airport at the agreed time.
Over these days you moved through spaces that changed sharply from one to the next: ocean, city, height, and the rushing water of the falls. You know how the ocean sounds at night, how the roar of the waterfalls clears your thoughts, how the city seen from above stops being a scattered grid and becomes one complete thing. This one week New Year Rio Iguazu sets you in motion without rush and teaches you to accept change as a natural part of the world. Your 7 day Brazil New Year tour is complete - but what you carry home lasts long after the airport.
Day 7 (Jan 5): Departure from Foz do Iguaçu -8

Buenas noches Viera.

Pavel, good afternoon!
My name is Marina Ryzhuk. A few weeks ago, our VIP group from St. Petersburg visited Rio with you. I believe you remember them well.
I’d like to thank you for your excellent work with our rather demanding guests. After the trip, they spoke very highly of your services. Our particularly important gentlemen especially appreciated your personal approach — you managed to find a special way to connect with them.
Through your tours, they were able to truly feel the city, which is absolutely priceless on such trips.
Thank you!

They said everything was as precise as with the Germans :)
REVIEW №11- Mikhail and Elena Leksikov
Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.

A very close-knit, friendly team, always ready to help.
REVIEW №12- Nikita, Saga Tour Operator
Good afternoon, Alexandra!
Thank you very much for the organization and support.
The tourist was very happy and said everything was top-notch :)
Paraty is definitely a place to recommend—it leaves no one indifferent. Porto Real is probably in the best spot on that coast.

Thank you!
Wishing you success in everything!

Alexandra!
Our clients have returned, very satisfied.
They left a special review about the guide in Quito:
In Quito, we had a wonderful guide named David.
During our three-day visit to Quito, your guide David was with us. He made our stay in Quito rich, interesting, and unforgettable. Not only does he know a lot about the city, the country, and its nature, he is also a truly interesting person himself. Our three days were filled with conversations about everything. Our knowledge of Ecuador is now practically encyclopedic—we learned so much. And the most important part was that it all happened through engaging discussions.
We’d like to highlight his punctuality, his thoughtfulness, and his attention to detail. His advice on restaurants and places to walk during our free time was invaluable. We’ve met many guides—this is the 103rd country we’ve visited. We don’t always get so lucky with a guide, but David was exceptional. Thank you to him and to all of you!!!

THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENT ORGANIZATION.

We came back very happy – the hotels were good, transfers and assistance were of the highest level, everything precise and on time. Thank you!
In Rio, at the hotel, we were greeted with champagne!!! ????
The coordinators also sent us photos of the cars and staff who met us, which made it easy to find our way around. The buses were large, new, comfortable, clean, and always stocked with bottled water in the fridge.
Our escorts checked us in for the domestic flights and stayed with us right up until passport control!

Dear colleagues, good afternoon!
I want to thank you for handling our group – a large and challenging one, with a very intense program – which you managed to organize and host at the highest level. Tremendous work – thank you so much, ladies!
Months of preparation, countless changes and additions – I know what it all cost us – but everything turned out perfectly. Thank you for your attention and patience.

A poem dedicated to the Ada Tours guide!
In Rio, where sunlight meets golden skies,
Our guide Paulo greets us with kind, warm eyes.
He knows the whole city, where secrets lie deep,
And welcomes each guest with joy that’s sincere.
“Come on,” he says, “to Corcovado,
Christ calls you up to heaven’s shadow.
Then on to the beach, where waves beat the shore,
Copacabana invites us once more.”

Paulo will show us where samba resides,
Where Brazil’s true heartbeat endlessly thrives.
In favelas he sees not poverty, but life,
Where sparks of hope conquer struggle and strife.

With a smile, he leads us along every way,
Paulo’s our friend, our golden pathway.
A Brazilian guide, a master of wonder,
With him, Rio feels closer to heaven’s splendor.

This poem is from me, for you.

Good afternoon, Alexandra.
I want to thank you for organizing our vacation.
Our guides were simply outstanding – top class.
Pavel knows so much about Brazil and Rio in particular. He’s very easy to talk to, communicates effortlessly with people, is always learning something new, and gladly shares his knowledge. An excellent guide and a wonderful person.
And Tiago – we spent two days with him. He’s amazing. Even after 18 years of work, he hasn’t lost the ability to genuinely admire the beauty of the waterfalls. He still takes photos like it’s the first time.
With your guides, it’s never boring! Thank you once again!!!
REVIEW №34- Tatyana Yakubova
Hello, Alexandra.
I am sending you the full version of the tourists’ feedback:
We are publishing our review after our trip through Argentina–Uruguay–Brazil with my wife. It is always a pleasure to share emotions when they are entirely positive! We want to thank the entire Ada Tours team who helped us organize the perfect journey. From the very idea of the trip to its completion, you were always in touch with us, tailoring excursions and building the itinerary based on our requests, while also giving valuable advice and making all necessary adjustments. Everything exceeded our already high expectations – the trip was very rich and exciting! We recommend this route to everyone, especially when its organization can be entrusted to professionals☺️
We would especially like to thank you for selecting wonderful guides and drivers. At every stage, everything went like clockwork – we never missed a single thing, and the drivers were always extremely polite and pleasant.
Our journey began in Buenos Aires with a city tour. We visited the main square – Plaza de Mayo, cathedrals, and saw key architectural monuments from the Spanish colonial period, as well as the modern financial center. We explored the vibrant and colorful La Boca district and the main city ports. We were lucky with the weather, and the tour was fascinating. The guide advised us to visit several additional places, and we chose the Recoleta Cemetery, where many of Argentina’s most famous figures are buried. After the tour, we asked to be dropped off near the entrance and bought tickets. The only issue we faced was that we couldn’t pay in cash, but other visitors kindly helped us with the payment. The cemetery left a strong impression on us – we would definitely recommend it as a must-visit.
In the evening, we went to a tango show that exceeded all expectations. We watched authentic Argentine tango performed to live music, enjoyed Argentine wine, and saw other artists showcasing traditional instruments. The show was incredible and allowed us to truly experience the local culture.
The next morning we traveled by ferry to Montevideo. The journey was very comfortable; we would only recommend bringing snacks and an extra layer of clothing, as despite the heat, the ferry was air-conditioned and quite cool inside. We loved the city itself – we managed to see all the main sights and stroll along the coast. Midway through the tour, a wonderful lunch was arranged for us, followed by a light meal at the hotel.
After Montevideo, we continued as planned to Patagonia, where we spent just under three days. This place amazed us – it’s like nowhere else on Earth. From our hotel, we could see the vast Lake Argentino with its turquoise waters (sometimes flamingos can be seen there, though unfortunately we didn’t). The scenery of the Patagonian steppe and mountains will remain in our hearts for a long time. We took an excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier – a unique wonder, truly beyond words. Probably the most powerful impression of the whole trip came from this glacier and the national park. It’s something everyone should witness with their own eyes.
After our mini-journey in Patagonia, we went on to Iguassu Falls, viewing them from both the Argentine and Brazilian sides. The sight was utterly unique and magical! Jungle, soaring eagles, butterflies, monkeys, and an endless chain of waterfalls stretching beyond sight. The park’s trails are very well maintained, with rest areas to escape the heat and humidity, and facilities everywhere.
The final stop of our trip was Brazil’s tourist capital – Rio de Janeiro. We visited the Christ the Redeemer statue, with its breathtaking views of the city, then spent time on Copacabana Beach, enjoying the Atlantic Ocean.
Overall, our journey was amazing and very full! And most importantly – as comfortable as possible, considering how vast the geography of our route was. Thank you!
Once again, thank you!

Sincerely,
General Director
