Once at the Ballestas Islands, you'll witness a vibrant array of wildlife, including sea lions, pelicans, Humboldt penguins, and various seabirds.

DAY 5: LIMA/AREQUIPA | INC: BTransfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, you'll be warmly greeted and escorted to your hotel. Enjoy a free morning to acclimate to the altitude.
In the afternoon, embark on an exploration of the "White City," starting with the historic Colonial district of San Lazaro, where Arequipa was founded. Stroll through its charming streets adorned with vibrant geraniums and then proceed to the Carmen Alto viewpoint. Here, you’ll marvel at the expansive agricultural terraces and the majestic volcanoes—Misti, Chachani, and Pichu-Pichu—that frame the city.

Next, enjoy lunch while taking in the stunning views at La Raya, the natural divide between Puno and Cusco. Next, we’ll travel to Moray, renowned for its dramatic concentric terraces that resemble an ancient amphitheater. These terraces were ingeniously designed to simulate 20 different microclimates, essential for optimizing agricultural production throughout the Inca Empire. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before we continue to Maras.

During your exploration of Machu Picchu, take the opportunity to visit Intipunku, or the Sun Gate, which marks the entrance to the Inca Trail. For those seeking a more exhilarating experience, consider a hike up Huayna Picchu. Note that only 400 permits are issued daily for this climb, so advance reservation is essential.
After your Machu Picchu adventure, we will make our way back to Cusco and transfer you to your hotel for a restful overnight stay.
