Brazil Carnival Tour: Rio | Iguazu Falls and the Amazon

Day 1. Arrival in Rio. Transfer. Free Time

Welcome to an exotic Brazil Carnival tour! After the airport meet-and-greet, your driver takes you to the hotel, and the road immediately shows why Rio can't be reduced to a single postcard.

The business district sets the pace with lines at coffee shops and fast-moving crowds; in residential neighborhoods, people argue about football at bar counters, and live music plays by the beach kiosks. In the evening, lights glow on the hillsides of Rio's favelas, easily recognized by their brick terraces, rooftop water tanks, and moto-taxis weaving where buses can't fit.

After check-in, the time is yours. Pick a table at a kiosk, order a cold juice, and watch the city shift pace with the passersby. For those starting a Rio de Janeiro Carnival tour, this is the first taste of its energy. Tomorrow, Carnival in Rio de Janeiro becomes the main event, but today the celebration teases with preparations - drumbeats and music drift from rehearsal halls, drawing dancers and their fans.

Day 2. Sugarloaf. Old Town. Evening - Champions' Parade

After breakfast, a Sugarloaf Mountain tour begins (4 hrs). The Pao de Acucar cable car takes you to Urca, then to the summit. From here, you can see Copacabana, the bay, the islands, the Niterói Bridge, and Christ the Redeemer. Then a tour of the old center awaits: colonial facades, churches, monasteries, and the main cathedral.

After the tour, rest up: in the evening, the Champions' Parade begins. The Rio Sambadrome greets you with the roar of the stands, flashes of light, and a drum rhythm you feel in your whole body. The best samba schools in Brazil pass down the avenue. Each tells its own story with enormous moving floats, hundreds of performers, and Rio Carnival costumes whose details you'll want to study endlessly.

The Carnival finale lasts all night, yet instead of fatigue, you're swept up by excitement and awe: it's impossible not to follow one scene after another, not to sing along with the stands, and not to marvel at the flawless coordination of the procession.

After the parade, a transfer takes you back to the hotel.

Day 3. Corcovado. Christ the Redeemer. City Panorama

After breakfast, a Corcovado tour awaits (4 hrs). The cog train starts at a small station: it rolls slowly into the Tijuca Forest, and outside the windows, city blocks give way to vines, ferns, and dense canopy.

At the summit, Christ the Redeemer greets you: up close, your gaze first catches the folds of the stone robe, then drifts to the city far below. From the viewing platform, you can easily recognize Guanabara Bay, the Niterói Bridge, Sugarloaf, Maracanã Stadium, and the Botanical Garden. Here you feel the scale of a city squeezed between ocean and forest.

Spend your free evening by the water. Walk along Ipanema Beach to Arpoador and climb the rocks before sunset. When the sun touches the horizon, conversations fade, and after the last ray, the crowd applauds - a simple local ritual that unexpectedly unites strangers.

Day 4. Flight Rio - Foz do Iguaçu. Transfer to Hotel

After breakfast, you'll head to the airport and fly to Foz do Iguaçu, where you'll be met and taken to your chosen hotel. This is where the nature side of your combined Brazil tour begins.

Iguazu was formed by ancient lava flows: as they cooled, they created steps of dark basalt, and the river gradually carved a path through them. Water found cracks, eroded rock, and over centuries pushed the cliff edge back, splitting a single channel into countless cascades.

The scale of Iguazu is hard to grasp from a photo. It's not one waterfall but an entire system of streams stretching in a wide arc through dense forest. It can't be taken in with one glance: in places, water falls in a solid wall, elsewhere it breaks into separate white ribbons, and a cloud of mist hangs permanently over the trees.

Iguazu Falls in Brazil and Argentina are surrounded by national parks, so the upcoming Iguazu excursions will be an encounter not just with water but with living tropical forest.

Day 5. Brazilian Side. Devil's Throat

After breakfast, you'll head into Iguazu National Park. The trail runs through humid forest, and at first, only individual white streams appear between the branches. Then the Brazilian side of Iguazu gradually reveals the full panorama: dozens of cascades fill the opposite bank, vanish into greenery, and reappear further on. No single frame can hold this picture - it's worth putting the phone away and simply watching how the water reshapes the canyon.

The closer the route gets to the main cascade, the louder the roar and the denser the cloud of mist. Spray stays on your face and clothes, the walkway gleams underfoot, and ordinary conversation turns into gestures. The Devil's Throat - a waterfall where it's especially hard to stay calm: your gaze follows the stream, your heart skips for a moment, and the height is felt almost physically. Here you're not observing the forces of nature from the sidelines - you're inside them, feeling their noise, coolness, and energy with your whole body.

Optional: Macuco Safari*

The Macuco Safari in Iguazu begins deep inside Iguazu National Park. You'll ride the first stretch in an open jeep: the road winds through humid forest, where your guide points out plants, animal tracks, and how the ecosystem works. After three kilometers, the vehicle stops, and you walk down to the riverbank. Here the calm pace changes abruptly - ahead lies a motorboat and a close encounter with the cascades.

The boat picks up speed, cuts through churning water, and approaches the falls so closely that staying dry is nearly impossible. Spray hits your face, a rainbow forms right over the river, and the roar drowns out voices. In that moment, Iguazu is no longer a panorama from a viewing platform but a torrent you feel with your entire body. Among Iguazu excursions, this one is especially appealing for those who need more than watching from the sidelines - you want to touch the falls, to get as close as possible.

Optional: Bird Park*

The Iguazu Bird Park sits next to Iguazu National Park, making it easy to visit on the same day as the Brazilian side of Iguazu. The highlight here is stepping inside spacious aviaries rather than watching birds through fine mesh. The route winds through dense greenery: red macaws fly over the path, parrots call from the branches, and toucans come so close you can study the pattern around their eyes and the texture of their enormous beaks.

There's no need to rush. First, you notice the bright plumage, then you start distinguishing voices, the rustle of leaves, and sharp wingbeats overhead. The birds choose where to sit and when to fly to another branch - every turn reveals a new scene. The most striking moment comes when a flock takes off and the space around you fills with color and motion for a few seconds.

Optional: Helicopter Flight Over Iguazu*

A helicopter flight over Iguazu Falls offers a rare chance to see what can't be assembled into a single picture from the walking trails. After takeoff, the forest drops away quickly, the wide riverbed opens up, and then the break of the cascades appears amid solid green. From above, it's especially clear how the calm water reaches the edge of the plateau, splits around islands, and vanishes in a cloud of spray through countless streams.

Iguazu Falls in Brazil and Argentina are perceived from here as one enormous natural system. The helicopter changes its angle, and the panorama reassembles each time. First, you see the overall curve of the falls. Then your gaze catches individual cascades. You begin to pick out details. Borders and separate routes stop mattering: below you are only dark green, white lines of water, and mist rising from the canyon.

Day 6. Argentine Side of the Falls

After breakfast, your guide meets you at the hotel. Across the Tancredo Neves Bridge, the road crosses the river and leads into Iguazu National Park. The Argentine side of Iguazu offers three routes, and each is remarkable in its own way.

The Upper Circuit runs above the edge of the cascades: from the walkways, you see how the calm river suddenly breaks and plunges down. The Lower Circuit descends via stairways and crossings to the base of the streams - here the roar is louder, and spray reaches the walkways. The third route leads to the Devil's Throat.

After a ride on the ecological train, you'll walk along a long catwalk over the upper riverbed until a white cloud of mist appears ahead. At the viewing platform, the water vanishes right beneath your feet, and your eyes can't follow its fall. The three routes combine into a complete impression: first you understand how the falls work, then you get closer, and finally you stand at the most powerful cascade, frozen in awe.

Day 7. Flight Iguazu - Manaus. Transfer to Amazon Lodge

After breakfast, you'll head to the airport and fly to Manaus. Here, your Amazon tour from Rio continues by water: a speedboat carries you from the city shore to Eco Lodge Evolution. As you move, houses disappear, the river begins to resemble an open space without edges, and the forest in the distance looks like a solid dark wall.

The lodge sits amid Amazonian nature, near the waters of the Rio Negro. Its main advantage isn't a set of resort activities but the chance to wake up and fall asleep inside a living forest.

By day, the air is filled with the damp scent of foliage, bird calls pass over the water, and in the evening, insects and frogs take over. An Amazon vacation in Brazil retunes your attention: you start listening to every rustle and noticing movement in the canopy. What strikes you most is the sheer scale of the space - a river that doesn't fit the usual idea of a river, and a forest whose life is heard long before it's seen.

Day 8. Amazon. Jungle Trek. Caboclo Village. Piranha Fishing. Night Walk

Breakfast, then a jungle trek in the Amazon with a naturalist guide begins. He'll show you how to read the forest through tracks, scents, and sounds that are easy to miss without guidance. Then you'll visit a caboclo home and the village of Acajatuba, where the daily life and traditions of the Amazon unfold through activities: fishing, growing cassava, tucuma, and acai, making flour and crafts from seeds.

After lunch, you'll board a canoe and enter the igapo - the flooded jungle, where the boat glides between trunks reflected in dark water. Here, piranha fishing awaits: your guide will explain the technique and help you handle the gear safely.

After dinner, a night walk in the Amazon begins. In the dark, the forest feels completely different: you speak more quietly, listen more carefully, and watch as the flashlight beam slowly scans the banks, catching the glint of eyes in the darkness. If you're lucky, you'll see Amazon caimans - the spectacled caiman or the larger black caiman - as well as night birds, frogs, and snakes.

Optional: Swimming with Pink Dolphins*

Swimming with pink dolphins will be one of the closest encounters with nature on your entire Amazon tour from Rio. Before you start, your guide will explain how to behave in the water and why it's important not to hold or chase the animals. Then you'll step into the river and wait for the dolphins to approach on their own.

First, a rounded back appears above the surface, then a short exhale sounds nearby - and the dark water hides the movement again. Amazon dolphins aren't always bright pink: their hue can range from gray to pinkish, which makes studying them up close especially fascinating.

Feeding and photos take place under the supervision of guides to keep the contact safe for both people and animals. This kind of Amazon vacation in Brazil is remembered not for a staged shot but for a few minutes of waiting, an unexpected splash nearby, and the feeling that a wild river dweller chose to come closer and take a look at you.

Day 9. Flight Manaus - Rio. Transfer to Buzios. Check-in

After breakfast, there's time for swimming and relaxation. On daytime transfers from the lodge, you can book the Meeting of the Waters excursion.

The Meeting of the Waters, where the Rio Negro and Solimões converge, looks almost unbelievable: dark, tea-colored water flows beside an ochre stream, and the boundary between them stretches into the distance.

The rivers don't mix immediately due to differences in temperature, speed, and density. The Solimões carries mineral sediment from the Andes, while the Rio Negro's color comes from organic matter in decaying leaves and plants. From the boat, you can see how two water surfaces merge into one channel but keep their distinct hues for a long time. Here, your Amazon tour from Rio gets its perfect final image - two different rivers becoming the Amazon. Price: USD 120 per person.

Then a speedboat takes you back to Manaus, and a transfer brings you to the airport. You'll fly to Rio and continue your combined Brazil tour with a drive to Buzios. After the humid silence of the jungle, a completely different mood lies ahead - free days on the Atlantic beaches.

Day 10. Buzios. Free Day. Beach Relaxation

A free day in Buzios is easy to shape to your own rhythm. Buzios' beaches offer plenty of choice: wide Geribá has more activity, waves, and surfers; in the sheltered cove of Ferradura, the water is calmer and perfect for swimming or paddleboarding. The smaller Azeda and Azedinha are within walking distance from Ossos Beach.

If lying on the sand gets old, take a boat along the peninsula: from the water, rocky headlands and coves appear that are invisible from the town streets, and you can swim during stops.

For those who want to see several beaches in one day and climb to viewpoints, a buggy tour is a great fit.

In the evening, swap your swimwear for light clothes and head to the Orla Bardot waterfront and Rua das Pedras - restaurants, bars, and small shops are all here. This kind of beach vacation in Brazil needs no strict plan: in the morning you choose the sea, in the afternoon an adventure, in the evening either a lively center or a quiet table by the water.

Day 11. Transfer Buzios - Rio. Departure Home

After breakfast, you'll be taken to Rio de Janeiro airport for your international flight. This Brazil tour ends, but the impressions will keep returning. Music will suddenly remind you of the drum rhythm of the Champions' Parade, rain of the cool spray of Iguazu, and the chirping outside your window will stir memories of the Amazon at night. And Buzios may come back to you through the scent of salt and sun-warmed wood.

Llegue dormido a Nasca y me tuvieron que departar. Comprendo que para poder ver a el condor y también volar sobra el desierto de Nasca este viaje fue la mejor opción.
Los hoteles fueron perfectos. Mi favorita fue lq Britania Crystal Miraflores. Yo le daría 4.5 *. Yo recomendaria este tour a qualquiera que quira hacer el tour como yo lo hice. Espero que con las conecciones aerias directas proramadas entre Curacao i Lima ( comensando el fin de año) y con el nuevo aeropuerto international en Cusco en algunos años el turismo desde Curacao sea mas grande.

Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.

Where sparks of hope conquer struggle and strife.
