Day 3: Salta - Purmamarca
Departure from Salta in the morning. Transfer to Purmamarca (about 4 hours). Excursion to the Seven Color Mountain and the Umawaka Gorge.
You will visit the world-famous gorge called Quebrada de Humahuaca, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique combination of magnificent landscapes and rich history, the earliest traces of which date back more than 10,000 years. Indigenous fortresses, prehistoric caves, numerous hamlets, pre-Columbian and colonial settlements and towns are preserved up to these days. When visiting this gorge, you will travel from Purmamarca. Here, you will encounter several remarkable attractions, such as the Seven Color Mountain Sierra de los Siete Colores, as well as the ancient church Rosario de Lima. The route continues to Tilcara, where you will visit the ancient indigenous fortress, showcasing the grandeur of the local ancient inhabitants. Along the way, you will also catch sight of the town of Uquia and its Church, which preserves one of the most important collections of famous "Angels with Harquebuses." We will visit the village of Umawaka, located on the banks of the Grande River, which delights the eye with its picturesque views. In Umawaka, you can stroll along the old narrow cobblestone streets and also see ancient cultural monuments from the colonial era.
