New Year Tour to Brazil & Argentina |10-Day Group Tour

Day 1. Dec 30 – Rio de Janeiro

Upon arrival at the airport, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. If you land before dark, your first glimpses of Rio will come through the car window: green hills, granite slopes, bays, and neighborhoods climbing the uneven terrain. By evening, hundreds of lights appear on the hillsides – a reminder of Rio's favelas, tightly built communities that have grown on the slopes with their own shops, schools, and daily rhythms.

Weather in Rio in January is typically hot and humid, so after the flight, stepping out to the ocean feels especially welcome. Copacabana Beach greets you with its black-and-white mosaic boardwalk, the sound of surf, and beach kiosks where coconuts are opened fresh and served chilled. Ipanema stretches just beyond. Cafes stay open late, the air cools by the water, and the first evening can be spent without plans – simply walking along the shore and getting acquainted with one of Rio's most magnetic qualities: its waterfront and the ocean.

Day 2. Dec 31 – Rio de Janeiro

After breakfast, a guided tour to Christ the Redeemer awaits (4 hrs). For Cariocas, this is a powerful spiritual symbol, and even among crowds, you'll notice moments of quiet reverence. Some spend time finding the perfect photo angle, others pray, some simply stand in silence at the base.

After the tour, it's wise to rest – the night ahead will be long.

How is New Year's Eve celebrated in Brazil? By evening, Copacabana is overtaken by people in white – a symbol of renewal. Free concerts begin at stages along the shore, and flowers and small boats with offerings for Iemanjá are carried to the water.

Fireworks launch from platforms in the ocean. After midnight, many wade into the water and jump over seven waves, making a wish on each one.

If you wish, you can book a New Year's dinner or party at one of the hotels along Copacabana – just ask about availability and prices.

Day 3. Jan 1 – Rio de Janeiro

After breakfast, a city tour with your guide awaits (4 hrs). First, you'll head to Praia Vermelha. From here, the cable car lifts you to Urca, where the city already lies below, and then on to Sugarloaf Mountain. From the upper platform, you can see Copacabana, the bay, islands, the Niterói Bridge, and Christ the Redeemer on the opposite side. If you're wondering what to see in Rio, start with a view from above – it's the easiest way to understand how the city arranged itself between ocean, mountains, and bay. While Corcovado shows Rio almost in its entirety, Sugarloaf brings the water closer, revealing the bay, islands, and coastline with greater clarity.

After descending, a tour of Rio's old center awaits. Here the streets grow narrower, and modern high-rises give way to old churches, monasteries, and colonial facades. After the wind at the top, the coolness of stone churches and narrow streets feels especially tangible.

Day 4. Jan 2 – Rio de Janeiro. Free day.

After New Year's Eve and the first excursions, you can spend the day at your own pace: sleep in, head to the ocean, have lunch in one of the beachside neighborhoods, or revisit your favorite views of the city. This is a free day to recharge and choose your own mood.

Optionally, you can book a favela tour in Rio with a local guide. On the hillsides, houses stand almost wall to wall, with narrow streets climbing between them. Along the way, you'll spot painted walls, small cafes, shops, and viewpoints where Rio looks completely different than from Corcovado. Such visits are only done on approved routes with trusted guides.

If you prefer a quieter day, stay near Copacabana or Ipanema beaches, stroll along the boardwalk, have coffee with an ocean view, and return to the hotel without rushing. For those who chose the New Year's tour to Rio, this day offers a convenient pause between the festive part of the journey and the adventures ahead.

Day 5. Jan 3 – Rio de Janeiro – Foz do Iguaçu

After breakfast, you'll transfer to the airport and fly to Foz do Iguaçu. Upon arrival, a driver will meet you and take you to your hotel. Today is for settling in and resting after the journey.

For many, the Iguazu Falls tour becomes the main reason to include this region in the itinerary. Here the river cut through ancient basalt layers left by lava flows, gradually eroding cracks in the rock. The drop line became stepped and split into numerous cascades. Iguazu doesn't have a single towering fall visible from afar. Water plunges over a long line of escarpments – over 270 cascades – some hidden by forest, with a constant mist cloud hovering above the canyon.

Tomorrow, the Brazil tour continues at the falls, and your guide will share everything about Iguazu's origins and nature.

Day 6. Jan 4 – Foz do Iguaçu

After breakfast, you'll head to the Brazilian side of Iguazu to take in the full panorama of the cascades, accompanied by your guide's commentary.

At first, the falls appear between the trees as separate white streaks, but further along the trail opens to the canyon's edge – and the entire line becomes visible almost at once.

Above the cliff, the river flows calmly, with no hint of what lies ahead. Then the water plunges over ancient basalt ledges, splintering into dozens of streams and crashing down, exploding into spray. The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani language meaning "big water" – and at the Devil's Throat, it no longer sounds like an exaggeration. The roar overwhelms voices, spray reaches the walkway, and clothes quickly become damp. You'll want to put the camera away – for a few minutes, it's all about simply watching and absorbing the spectacle.

Macuco Safari*

The Macuco Safari is a two-in-one adventure. First, you'll ride about three kilometers through the jungle in an open vehicle with a guide, then walk to the riverbank. From there begins the most thrilling part: a motorboat speeds toward the falls. The cascades are right there, water flying over the sides, spray on your face, rainbows in the air, passengers laughing and cheering. Unforgettable photos guaranteed. Price: USD 130 per person.

Bird park*

The Iguazu Bird Park sits next to the national park. Its charm lies in walking through large aviaries where birds aren't behind glass but fly freely among the trees, crossing the path right in front of visitors. Their vivid colors are incredibly energizing. Price: USD 50 per person.

Day 7. Jan 5 – Foz do Iguaçu – Buenos Aires

After breakfast, you'll head to the Argentine side of Iguazu with your guide. The tour to Argentina from Brazil begins with crossing the Tancredo Neves Bridge over the Iguazu River.

Yesterday you saw the falls from a distance, taking in the full scope. Today you can get much closer. Walkways pass over the river and descend to the lower cascades. Water appears beneath your feet, at eye level – and spray reaches you before you even see the stream itself.

The highlight is the Devil's Throat. First, you hear the rumble, then a white cloud rises above the canyon, and only at the edge do you fully grasp where the river plunges. The combined Brazil-Argentina tour excels precisely here: one side gives you the big picture, the other lets you step almost inside the falls.

After the excursion, a quick transfer to the airport, flight to Buenos Aires – and the Brazil and Argentina tour continues in the capital. A driver will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel.

Day 8. Jan 6 – Buenos Aires

Breakfast, followed by a city tour with your guide (3 hrs). In the combined Brazil and Argentina tour, Buenos Aires is not just a brief stop – in just a few hours, the city reveals its many contrasting sides. Buenos Aires is a constant shift between port districts, grand plazas, and sweeping avenues. La Boca stands out with its colorful facades, San Telmo with old houses and antique markets, Plaza de Mayo with the Pink House and stately government buildings. Then the Obelisk on 9 de Julio Avenue, elegant Recoleta, and modern Puerto Madero.

In the evening, a tango show in Buenos Aires with dinner. Argentine tango was born in port neighborhoods, among immigrants and people who found in dance a way to speak without words. Partners almost freeze, then draw sharply together – and behind each movement lies a whole story. A live orchestra amplifies the sensation: music, tension, intimacy – the very Argentine passion that draws people here. All paired with traditional dishes and Argentine wine.

Day 9. Jan 7 – Buenos Aires

Today, the Argentina tour takes a pause. Explore Buenos Aires at your own pace – revisit familiar neighborhoods, sit in a cafe, or choose a spot you missed during the city tour. For a self-guided stroll, La Boca district is ideal – colorful houses, painted walls, small bars, and streets near the old port.

Optional Excursion – Northern Suburbs

First, you'll pass through quiet and affluent San Isidro, a stark contrast to the bustling city center. Then on to Tigre, a town set among the rivers and canals of the Paraná Delta – the main part of this trip takes place on the water. A boat glides past docks, riverside houses, and green islands where city dwellers come to relax on weekends. Shared group tour with English-speaking guide. Price: USD 100 per person.

Excursion to Montevideo – Uruguay (Full Day)*

Early morning transfer to Buenos Aires port. The ferry crosses the Río de la Plata, and within hours you're in Montevideo – on the other side of the bay, in an entirely different rhythm. During the tour, you'll see the port, Independence Square, central districts, the Cathedral, and old city streets. Fiesta Gaucha (Full Day)*

From Buenos Aires, you'll head to a ranch to spend the day among those who still preserve the culture of Argentine gauchos. Once nomadic, they later turned to farming and ranching.

At the ranch, this history comes to life: gauchos ride out on horseback, demonstrating horsemanship, lasso work, and knife skills. A special highlight is the boleadoras – three stones connected by ropes, thrown to entangle an animal's legs. The movements are hard to follow at first.

Later, guests are invited to a traditional Argentine feast. This one-day Argentina tour steps beyond the capital and into the life of the Pampas.

Day 10. Jan 8 – Buenos Aires

Me quede muy impresionado de la cultura Inca y la visita al Machu Picchu era una experiencia espiritual elevadora. El viaje de Arequipa a Nasca de 10 horas por bus era agotador. Llegue dormido a Nasca y me tuvieron que departar. Comprendo que para poder ver a el condor y también volar sobra el desierto de Nasca este viaje fue la mejor opción.
Los hoteles fueron perfectos. Mi favorita fue lq Britania Crystal Miraflores. Yo le daría 4.5 *. Yo recomendaria este tour a qualquiera que quira hacer el tour como yo lo hice. Espero que con las conecciones aerias directas proramadas entre Curacao i Lima ( comensando el fin de año) y con el nuevo aeropuerto international en Cusco en algunos años el turismo desde Curacao sea mas grande.

Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.
