Cobán

Cobán is an attractive city located in the middle of lush forests and mountains in central Guatemala. The city is the capital of Alta Verapaz and a gateway to the region's infinite natural splendors.
There are numerous activities in its surroundings: Explore a coffee plantation, watch demonstrations of how to make coffee and taste Verapaz beans in Finca Santa Margarita; Enjoy the national parks of the region with their trails and beautiful views; Swim in the Semuc Champey pools and waterfalls and marvel at the emerald green lagoons of Lagunas de Sepalau and the underground cave of Bombil Pek, near Chisec.
Guatemala's most impressive festival of indigenous traditions, the national folklore festival of Rabin Ajau with its traditional dance of the Paabanc, takes place here in the latter part of July or in the first week of August. The national orchid show is hosted here every December.
