About Brazil
Brazil, the largest country of South America is full of outstanding white-sand beaches, pristine rain forests and rhythm-filled metropolises. With its dramatic landscapes of red rock canyons, thundering waterfalls and the exotic tropical islands, the county is well known as the most fascinating tourism destination throughout the world. In addition to this, its diverse ecosystem shows off the greatest population of flora and fauna with beautifully colored animals and birds that surprise its visitors.
The Guiana Amazonian Park covers a vast territory of over 30,000km², and is accessible only by air or canoe along the Maroni and Oyapock rivers, where Native Americans and Bushinengues, the descendants of slaves, still live.
In the region you can visit the little village of Saül -45 minute flight from Cayenne- a tourist hot spot for hikers. There are 45km of safe, signposted trails, and five trails that have been fitted out for visitors with reduced mobility. It’s part of the “Amazon for All” programme, which proves that everyone can access the Amazon rainforest and, in perfect safety, rub shoulders with its giants like the 60m kapok tree.
The territory of the Guiana Amazonian Park is also home to more than 1500 different trees, out of some 5800 listed species. In terms of fauna diversity: 400 fresh water fish species (40% endemic), 192 species of mammals, 261 species of reptiles and amphibians, 719 species of birds and hundreds of thousands of species of insects (butterflies, coleoptera, stick insects) inhabit the region.
