Santa Ana

Santa Ana is the second largest city in El Salvador, after only San Salvador and is located 64 kilometres northwest the capital city. The city houses a wealthy yesteryear that lingers in its colonial backstreets, a socially conservative major city. The city is well known for being home to the country’s largest coffee plantations as well as one of the world’s largest coffee mills (El Molino).
The main reason why most of tourists want to travel to Santa Ana is hiking to Santa Ana Volcano whose crater is filled with a green lagoon. It is located at 2381 meters, the country's highest volcano. The city is also the closest thing to a university town outside San Salvador, reflected in the lively nightlife and proud entrepreneurial spirit. The plaza is among the grandest in El Salvador, making it more than a handy departure point for Lago de Coatepeque, the Maya ruins at Tazumal or the Ruta de las Flores.
