Sun, sand, swimming and scuba - this clique of Caribbean cayes must be paradise. Los Roques is a amazing, virtually unspoilt archipelago of small coral islands, 150km (93mi) due north off the central coast. Soft white sandy beaches are bliss for sunbathers, while coral reefs harboring rich marine life are heaven for snorkelers and divers.
The archipelago was declared a national park in 1972 - unrestricted access is permitted only in the Zona Recreativa (encompassing Gran Roque, Madrizquí, Cayo Pirata, Noronquises and Crasquí). From Gran Roque, you can organize everything from yacht charters and diving to windsurfing and kitesurfing.
