Brazil Tour – Carnival in Rio | Iguazu Falls, Manaus, Buzios

Day 1. Arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Transfer to Hotel. Free Time

Getting to know Rio, you immediately see its character. After meeting at the airport and transferring to your hotel, you notice how the city is stubbornly wedged between the ocean and steep slopes: streets end unexpectedly, houses climb upward, and life doesn't hide behind facades. Rio de Janeiro Carnival tours begin with this light-headed feeling. Rio's favelas are especially captivating – a separate urban world on the hillsides, drawing you in with its sheer inaccessibility.

The first evening is free. Walk to the ocean, listen to conversations, catch the scent of coffee and the salty breeze. At the Christ statue, the wind tugs at your clothes, and Rio lies unevenly below, squeezed by mountains and water. You'll spot the Botanical Garden in the greenery, recognize the bowl of Maracanã Stadium, and trace the curve of the coastline. You'll want to stay silent and watch how the city nestles cozily between ocean and mountains.

In the evening, head to Arpoador. The Arpoador rocks still hold the day's warmth. Sit closer to the ocean: when the sun touches the water, people around applaud. And you unexpectedly join in – not because it's expected, but because this simple gesture perfectly captures the mood of a city generous with open, strong emotions.

Day 3. Rio de Janeiro. Evening – Carnival at the Sambadrome.

Leave the morning free: after breakfast, take a leisurely stroll, return to the hotel, and rest before the night that will become a celebration. In the evening, a transfer takes you to the Rio Sambadrome. Sound comes first: hundreds of drums pass through the stands and resonate in your chest. Then color appears. Rio's Carnival costumes flash under the spotlights, enormous floats move almost within arm's reach, and dancers smile without showing a trace of fatigue. The Samba School Parade in Rio is a competition, but you quickly stop thinking about the judges' scores. What matters more is the feeling that the whole city has gathered in one place.

Brazil's samba schools spend months preparing music, steps, and design for this – for a few minutes on the avenue. Brazil's Carnival culture wins you over with its sincerity and passion – you clap, rise from your seat, and greet the dawn among people who aren't ready to say goodbye to the celebration or return to silence.

Day 4. Rio de Janeiro. Sugarloaf Mountain Tour. Old Town Walk

After breakfast, a Sugarloaf Mountain tour awaits (4 hrs). The cable car first lifts you to Urca, then the cabin rises higher, and water gradually fills almost the entire horizon. From the platform, you can clearly see how Copacabana Beach follows the curve of the shore, houses press up against the sand, and yachts leave thin white trails. In the distance, Guanabara Bay opens up, and the Niterói Bridge stretches between islands and neighborhoods. Here it's pleasant to trace the lines of water, rock, and coastline, noticing how tightly they're connected.

After descending, you'll head to the old center. Among churches, monasteries, and colonial facades, Rio comes closer again – instead of a wide panorama, you get cool galleries, stone walls, and the ordinary city noise that brings you back to earth.

For dinner, we recommend Fogo de Chão to try Brazilian meat – at Fogo de Chão, it's roasted over open fire, giving it a firm crust and a light smoky aroma.

Optional: Helicopter Flight Over Rio*

A helicopter flight over Rio changes your sense of the city within seconds. The machine lifts off, the ground drops away quickly, and familiar streets fold into an intricate pattern between rock and water. In the window, the ocean appears with white yachts gliding across it, then Ipanema Beach opens up with its long line of surf. A little further, Leblon Beach stretches out, squeezed between the shore and green slopes. From above, it's especially clear how unusually this megacity is arranged: a lake sits beside dense neighborhoods, the Botanical Garden looks like a dark green island, and Christ the Redeemer rises above this complex geography.

At first, you want to photograph nonstop, but soon you lower the phone. The helicopter turns toward Sugarloaf, the shore sweeps away sharply, and for a moment everything goes quiet inside. The flight doesn't last long, but you return with a rare feeling of having seen Rio as a whole.

Day 5. Flight Rio – Foz do Iguaçu. Transfer to Hotel

After breakfast, you'll head to the airport and fly to Foz do Iguaçu. This combined Brazil tour shifts mood: the ocean and city blocks stay behind, and ahead lie humid forest and the heavy roar of water. What should you know before heading to Iguazu Falls on a tour? Their foundation wasn't built in a day: ancient lava flows cooled in layers, forming a basalt plateau, and the river gradually carved cracks and ledges. This created a massive fracture where water falls not as a single wall but as countless streams.

Upon arrival, you'll be met and taken to a hotel inside Iguazu National Park. The park was created to preserve the Atlantic Forest around the cascades, where constant mist provides exceptional humidity. Today, Iguazu excursions are still ahead. But already on the road, you feel the air change, notice the dense greenery, and begin anticipating tomorrow's encounter with a place where the river suddenly loses its footing and crashes down.

Day 6. Foz do Iguaçu. Brazilian Side of the Falls. Devil's Throat

After breakfast, you'll head into the park, where the Brazilian side of Iguazu gradually builds toward the day's main encounter. At first, the trail keeps its distance from the water. Between the trees, individual white streams appear, then more cascades come into view, and at some point, you see the entire curve of the canyon. And finally, there it is: the calm river above suddenly vanishes, giving way to roaring water and a cloud of spray.

At the Devil's Throat platform, the waterfall no longer allows you to observe from a distance: the roar passes through your body, your face gets wet, and you have to nearly shout to speak. The walkway comes too close to the edge, but you don't want to step back.

All Iguazu excursions promise scale, but here it's felt physically. You stand among humid air, rainbows, and the continuous motion of water, forgetting about time and photos, simply looking ahead, unable to hold back a smile.

Optional Excursions: Macuco Safari*

The Macuco Safari in Iguazu begins with an open jeep ride along a forest road while your guide tells you about the park. Then you descend to the river and board a motorboat. Here, the measured part of the Iguazu excursion ends: the boat picks up speed, spray flies over the sides, and passengers laugh. You'll see the stunning falls from a point where you feel with your whole body how the air and the water itself tremble from the streams.

Optional Excursions: Bird Park*

The Iguazu Bird Park is located next to the national park. You enter spacious aviaries where scarlet ibises fly over the path, macaws call from the canopy, and a toucan may settle quite close. You instinctively duck from a wingbeat, then spend a long time watching the birds, losing track of time. After this visit, the bright plumage stays in your mind's eye for a long while.

Helicopter fly over the Falls*

A helicopter flight over Iguazu Falls begins with a sharp lift-off, and within seconds the forest turns into a dense green canvas. From above, it becomes clear why Iguazu Falls – Brazil and Argentina – are perceived as a single natural space: the border disappears, leaving only the river, islands, and dozens of white streams cutting through the green. The helicopter turns, and the Devil's Throat opens before you. The water approaches the edge almost calmly, then plunges into a cloud of spray, with rainbows forming above it. In that moment, you want to stop filming and simply memorize the whole picture.

While Iguazu Falls tours usually show the cascades from trails and platforms, the flight gathers them into one enormous scene. You'll see the curve of the canyon, feel a slight dizziness on the turns, and return to earth with the sense that you've seen the entire journey of water from river to canyon.

Day 7. Foz do Iguaçu. Argentine Side of the Falls

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel, and you'll head to the border across the Tancredo Neves Bridge. Beyond it begins the Argentine side of Iguazu, where the falls are experienced completely differently. Yesterday you saw the cascades as a wide panorama, but today trails and walkways will lead you right over the water.

The river still seems calm, but a few steps later it disappears over the edge right beneath your feet. The closer you get to the Devil's Throat – the cascade that stands out for its scale – the more the walkway vibrates and the louder the roar becomes. Spray hangs in the air, rainbows appear and vanish, and conversation with your guide has to continue almost at a shout. You're lucky to see the falls from two banks: from one, you take in the scale; from the other, you're inside the movement of water.

At the final platform, you'll want to linger despite your wet clothes. You watch as the massive river breaks at the edge and realize that no photograph can capture this sound and scale.

Day 8. Flight Iguazu – Manaus. Transfer to Amazon Lodge

After breakfast, you'll head to the airport and fly to Manaus. Today, the Amazon tour from Rio, through Iguazu to the jungle, begins, and big cities gradually give way to nature. Combined Brazil tours are especially interesting for this transition: one flight starts an entirely different trip.

In Manaus, you'll be met and taken to a pier where a speedboat awaits. From the first minutes on the water, the air grows heavier, the banks recede, and instead of traffic noise, only the steady hum of the engine remains. You look at the wide river and feel that your Amazon vacation in Brazil begins even before you reach the lodge.

Ahead lies a night in the forest and an introduction to the daily life and traditions of the Amazon. When the boat approaches the hotel, familiar city landmarks are already gone. All that remains is water, dense greenery, and a pleasant anticipation of a place that's still impossible to imagine from photographs.

Day 9. Amazon. Jungle Trek. Caboclo Village Visit. Piranha Fishing. Night Walk with Flashlights

After breakfast, you'll set off on a jungle trek with a naturalist guide. He'll point out plants that are easy to walk past and teach you to distinguish sounds hidden behind the steady rustle of leaves. Then the Caboclo village welcomes you. Here you'll see how cassava flour is prepared, how acai is grown, and how jewelry is made from seeds.

After lunch, you'll board a canoe and enter the Igapo – the flooded jungle. Water rises between the trunks, the paddle touches the surface gently, and you try piranha fishing in almost complete silence.

After dinner, a night walk begins. A flashlight beam slides along the shore, and short splashes come from the darkness. The guide spots a caiman before anyone else, and two glowing points suddenly turn out to be eyes. In that moment, the forest stops seeming quiet – the animals were simply hiding nearby, waiting for darkness so the forest could come alive. If you're lucky, you'll see not only caimans but also night hawks, snakes, and frogs.

Optional: Swimming with Pink Dolphins*

Swimming with pink dolphins begins with surprise: what appears in the water isn't the bright pink figure from a postcard, but large animals with grayish-pink, sometimes spotted skin. Young dolphins are usually darker, and adults gradually turn pink. They have long, narrow snouts, small eyes, and flexible necks, so they turn their heads more freely than marine dolphins.

When such a dolphin appears nearby, a slight nervousness comes first: the water hides its body, and you can't predict where it will surface again. Then curiosity wins over caution. You notice how calmly the animal approaches, takes a treat, and lingers beside you for a few seconds. The touch is brief, the skin smooth and firm. In that moment, a smile appears on its own.

A photograph will preserve the pink silhouette, but what stays with you more is the feeling that in the middle of the vast Amazon, you came closer than ever to a creature usually hidden from human view by murky water.

Day 10. Flight Manaus – Rio. Transfer to Buzios.

The morning at the lodge is free: you can swim, sit by the water, and spend a little more time in the forest.

On daytime transfers, the Meeting of the Waters – where the Rio Negro and Solimões converge – is available for an additional fee.

The boat approaches the spot where dark and light water flow side by side, for kilometers, without mixing. The dark Rio Negro is colored by forest organics, while the lighter Solimões carries Andean sediment. Run your hand across the surface – the temperature difference is felt on your skin.

Then you'll return to Manaus, head to the airport, and fly to Rio, where a driver takes you to Buzios. This combined Brazil tour trades humid jungle for ocean coast. In Buzios, Brazil, the tour continues at a different pace: a free day, boats, and small coves lie ahead. After the long journey, it's especially pleasant to enter your room, open the window, and hear the surf.

Day 11. Buzios. Free Day. Beach Relaxation

After the packed program, it's a pleasure to leave this day without plans. You're in Buzios, Brazil: relaxation here moves at its own pace – a long breakfast, a walk to the ocean without a group, and deciding on the spot where to go. Buzios' beaches don't form one long shoreline – they're small coves, easy to move between by buggy. The road rises above the water, then descends to the sand, and each stop looks a little different.

If you want a quieter day, choose a boat. From the water, the peninsula opens up with green slopes, white houses, and strips of beach hidden behind headlands. This kind of beach vacation in Brazil brings you back to simple pleasures: swimming, feeling salt on your skin, ordering a cold juice, and not rushing anywhere. By evening, the sun softens, boats return to shore, and you realize how nice it is to spend a day without a mandatory program or a pre-set route.

Day 12. Transfer Buzios – Rio. Departure Home

After breakfast, you'll check out and head to Rio de Janeiro airport. The drive from the coast gives you time to quietly recall the journey. Your Brazil Carnival tour began with the drums of the Sambadrome, then led you to the roar of Iguazu, the nighttime sounds of the Amazon, and the quiet coves of Buzios. Now these places connect not by a line on a map, but through what you saw and experienced yourself: applause at sunset, the wet walkway at the falls, the glowing eyes of a caiman, and salt on your skin.

This Brazil tour will keep reminding you of itself through unexpected details. At the airport, there's time for coffee, a document check, and sending the last photos. When boarding is announced, you'll realize you're saying goodbye not to one Brazil, but to several: festive, natural, forested, and oceanic. Para una persona viajando solo eso trae tranquilidad. Los lugares que he visidado eran todos muy impresionantes. Con Cusco y los tours correspondientes los mas destacados. Me quede muy impresionado de la cultura Inca y la visita al Machu Picchu era una experiencia espiritual elevadora. El viaje de Arequipa a Nasca de 10 horas por bus era agotador. Llegue dormido a Nasca y me tuvieron que departar. Comprendo que para poder ver a el condor y también volar sobra el desierto de Nasca este viaje fue la mejor opción.
Los hoteles fueron perfectos. Mi favorita fue lq Britania Crystal Miraflores. Yo le daría 4.5 *. Yo recomendaria este tour a qualquiera que quira hacer el tour como yo lo hice. Espero que con las conecciones aerias directas proramadas entre Curacao i Lima ( comensando el fin de año) y con el nuevo aeropuerto international en Cusco en algunos años el turismo desde Curacao sea mas grande.

Good afternoon, we were in Rio de Janeiro March 15–17, 2020. Not for long, but it was very full of experiences.
The driver who met us at the airport, to our joy, spoke English and even a little Russian. He pointed out where we could walk and eat.
The next day we met Eleonora, a GUIDE and a Person with a capital P. We were lucky to visit Corcovado and see Brazil’s main symbol. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it to Sugarloaf Mountain due to the coronavirus quarantine.
Instead of the canceled excursion, Eleonora gave us an impromptu city tour. She tells stories in an interesting way, knows a lot, but doesn’t overwhelm with facts, shows where the best photo spots are, and even took pictures herself. Thanks to her, we managed to get coffee and souvenirs—it turned out not so easy to find what we wanted.
She was very caring and concerned for us—even after we went to Búzios, she kept checking how we were, suggesting where to go and what to see and buy.
