Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
After breakfast, a half-day guided excursion to the Sugar Loaf is planned. The first stop is on Urca Mountain, with a wide viewing area. You can clearly see the whole city on palm of your hand from here. On Sugarloaf mountain you can enjoy a beautiful view of Rio, Copacabana beach, Guanabara bay, the surrounding mountains, islands in the ocean, Niteroi bridge, and the statue of Christ on Corcovado Mountain.
In the afternoon we have a jeep tour in the Tijuca Rain Forest. The Tijuca National Park is in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, only a few minutes away from most local districts. Covering an area of 3,200 hectares, the Park is considered the world’s first major reforestation project.
The Tijuca Forest was designated as a National Park in 1961, featuring unique scenery bringing nature and culture together in perfect harmony. On your drive, your guide will detail the importance of the Mata Atlântica ecosystem — part of the vast and protected Mata Biosphere Reserve, which covers fourteen states in Brazil.
In the forest you will make one-hour stop for hiking. During your hike through the forest, you will spot sloths, butterflies, monkeys, and birds. Enjoy panoramic views of Copacabana, Ipanema, and Guanabara Bay from Vista Chinesa (Chinese View). Follow your guide to the crystal-clear cascade of Cachoeira dos Macacos and pass the picturesque waterfalls of Cascatinha. Make a stop at the waterfalls.
