Day 2: Caracol Archaeological Ruins
Today an exciting tour awaits! We will first stop at natural pool and waterfalls, you can also enjoy sitting in a natural jacuzzi. After this stop, we continue the tour to the archaeological ruins of Caracol. The tour begins at Belize's largest archaeological site, spanning 30 square miles in the high jungle canopies, and includes five plazas, an astronomical observatory, and over 35,000 buildings. The ruins of the ancient city of Caracol on the Vaca Plateau were discovered in 1936. The Canaa Pyramid still stands as one of the tallest structures in Belize (its height is 42 meters). Additionally, more than 100 ceremonial burials from the 6th to 8th centuries have revealed beautiful examples of hieroglyphic writing, telling of the war between Caracol and Tikal. In the surrounding excavation forest, tapirs, jaguars, ocelots, and thousands of birds roam, including rare orange-breasted falcons and harpy eagles. Night at Blancaneaux lodge.
